The consequences of everything from gerrymandering, voter suppression, voting for the worst, "own the libs" as a policy, Qanon, to pretending that far-right ignorance and ignorance are actually ideas that have merit are coming home to roost.
We're not bailing out the Republican Party, not anymore.
No present votes, vote for Hakeem Jeffries every single time.

(35,706 posts)that addressed that. It was pretty funny, how they showed Democrats amused at the mess the republicans were making.
At one point a republican said something like "we have an agreement" and apparently a Dem sarcastically shouted, "I don't think so." And of course there was no agreement.
Anyway, point is that you are not the only one to notice this.
Oh and might I add--I am never one to miss a show of republican schadenfreude. If I was there I would be sitting around with my smug mug.
Since I am not there, my friends and I periodically text emojis of clowns as we watch the votes on television.

(633 posts)Add lying, grifting, lack of integrity to that list as well!
And seeing Fox News actually criticizing this debacle instead of trying to spin it into something not bad, which they usually do, shows you just how far this really could be it!

(35,706 posts)Commentators on television, especially the ones who are right there on the floor, tell about why fellow republicans don't like Kevin McCarthy:
they don't trust him
they don't like him
he can't possibly deliver on all his promises
But anyone else they can turn to pretty much has the same qualifications.
Then, of course, there is poor Santos sitting off in his corner, playing with his cell phone. He is the poster boy for lying republicans and their behavior is so despicable and desperate that they won't talk to him but they also won't throw his ass out because they want his vote.
Creeps to the core, every one of them. I marvel at how one political party manages to suck up every bit of human detritus like a vacuum cleaner sucks up dirt.

(47,226 posts)There do not appear to be serious issues in the food fight we are witnessing.
Just egos and power struggles over personalities.
Boebert for example, only won her last election by 500 votes.
So we can see that she hired a speech coach, make up artist and stylist
and is all over our TV screens. Acting like a pretend leader.
She probably doesn't even care who gets the speaker spot.
The limelight is what is important to her.
They don't care that Santos is a con artist because most of them are the same.
They lie, cheat and steal to get votes. They don't like Santos because he is embarrassing
them. Just like Madison Crawford. They were angry because he didn't keep inside the beltway secrets
and embarrassed them with the truth.
Creeps to the core, every one of them. I marvel at how one political party manages to suck up every bit of human detritus like a vacuum cleaner sucks up dirt.
Brilliant summary. Jeff Tiedrich could not have said it better.

(11,521 posts)At some point I'd like to see a compromise involving Democrats and the few reasonable GOPers remaining in the House. Some key committee assignments for Democrats, keep radical magats off of key committees, etc. and in exchange Democrats would help elect a non-radical republican (I'm not sure any still exist in the House, but surely there must be one or two).
Realistically we don't control the House anymore and it seems that some sort of arrangement like this would be far preferable to magats running everything.

(6,905 posts)or so Robert Reich says, and I trust his jidgment. You can read his column on Substack, and he may have a video on this - I haven't checked his YouTube for a couple of days.
It would be lovely if we could get just five of them benind Adam Kunzinger, but he probably wouldn't want it.

(2,741 posts)even if many are. Don't compromise with the fascists. Do work with the ones who are not fascists to block the fascists and anyone who voted against certifying Biden's election from controlling key committees and set things up so the House actually functions instead of is lost in a tangle of witch-hunts and attempts to force changes on Social Security and Medicare.
Fear of the reaction of Carlson, Hannity, and others who love to gin up anger may keep such a compromise from happening, but it would be in the best interest of the American people.
Not as sure if it's in the best long-term interests of the Democratic party or not, but I hate to see two years of time wasted on garbage instead of solving problems for the people.

(35,706 posts)Yes, total waste of time acting out their investigation fantasies and avoiding any semblance of "government."
Columnists and commentators are pointing out that the debt ceiling needs to be voted on and these far out nut cases are just fine with letting the U.S. go without paying its bills.
They will be in their glory days as they sink the ship.

And since then, its gone up to eight votes for the spoiler, Donalds. Kevins frozen out again.
On edit - the Republican spoiler vote is up to 11 now.
Make that 12.

(81,415 posts)And that evidently doesnt count the previous list of 20 - 19 of whom have now voted for Donalds. Theyre not to the Ss yet in the alphabetical order. Keith Self of Texas has yet to be called, and he voted against McCarthy and he hasnt voted yet. Will he make it 21?
And somebody Victoria Sparks (?) of Indiana has now voted Preseny. She had been a McCarthy vote.
Kevvys having another bad day.
This is just a real bad look as one of the commentators just said.
Kornacki says that brings Jeffries magic number down to 5.
