(24,722 posts)That sounds miserable. I'm sorry you're going through this. I just googled covid induced pancreatitis....I had no idea.
Ms. Toad
(38,638 posts)Three days of hospitalization on IV with nothing but ice chips by mouth - but lower levels of pain than pancreatitis usually causes.
But it came coupled with some as-yet-to-be-defined gall bladder crud and immune deficiencies. 6 months after COVID the pancreatitis has resolved, but my GI system is still being quite cranky at least once a week. It's been 3 days out of the last 7. But I got off easy compared to many with long COVID - since my symptoms don't keep me from living my life.
The treatment by the doctors at the hospital was rough, though, because many doctors don't have any idea either. Whatever my gall bladder crud is, it isn't the kind that causes pancreatitis. So, absent anything objective to point to, the doctor just decided I was an alcoholic lying about how much I drink. He kept commenting (especially when I had visitors) that I just needed to go home and stop drinking. Fortunately, I am a persistent little critter, who generally does not take "no" for an answer from doctors absent good, objective, reasons. He ultimately gave in and called in a GI specialist. That got me to a pancreatic specialist who has been seeing a lot of COVID-induced pancreatitis.

(62,143 posts)ingredient I don't have on hand is prescription muscle relaxant. Which I tried for a while years ago when I first injured my back, but didn't like and didn't find very effective. A single beer works just fine as a mild muscle relaxant for me, and I probably drink beer for that reason only a couple of times a year.
You've said you don't drink, though, so if Tandrilax helps you with muscle spasms, I'm glad you found something that works.

(60,186 posts)I discovered it when I was in London attending a conference, and my back pain was so bad, I needed two minutes to get in and out of chairs. A Brazilian colleague noticed my discomfort, and asked what my problem was? I said horrible back pain. He asked if it was muscular or spinal. I said muscular. He said here take one of these, and handed me a pink pill. I said I'd try anything. So, I took it before I turned in for the night. I woke the next morning, and got up very carefully. I couldn't believe it. It was gone. Pain vanished. I asked how often I needed to take one. He said not at all unless the pain came back. It didn't.
I had an appointment at a chiropractor the next Monday (this was a Friday morning), and I didn't need another pill. The chiropractor asked how I was doing, and I said, great, I'm cured. He laughed, and said "suuuure, you are. OK, please lie down, face facing the flloor." I did, and he ran his hands up and down my back. And then again. "How in the world did you do THAT?" he asked. "A Brazilian pill," I answered. ONE pill. "What's in it?" he asked. I had no idea, so I showed him the box. He said there was nothing forbidden in there, so it must be the ratio of one ingredient to the other. At any rate, other friends and relatives in Germany have tried it with similar effects.
I indeed don't drink alcohol. Some people tell me "too bad," but I can't stand the taste of any of it, so I don't miss it at all.

(60,186 posts)I made no other offers than to give them one if they wanted to try it. They all sang its praises, and not a one had the slightest side effects. Were it just me, I might have thought I lucked out. With fifteen other people, the likelihood of coincidence dwindles to near zero. I asked my colleague from Brazil to bring me a couple of boxes the next time he went home, and he did. They cost about $1 per pill, but if all you need is one every six months, it quickly becomes very cost effective.

(42,770 posts)Do you have one?
I think we need to think about what solution provides the best for us- helping KM get in.
- Avoids us getting someone worse
- Allows us to get a possible concession - eg no impeachment
- Allows us to maybe get/demonstrate goodwill. KM may remember we helped him get his dream job.
Now people might say none of that will happen. It may not. But only other option is getting a liberal R which is impossible.
Howard Dean just made a great point. They could block debt ceiling increases if really pisses off.

(81,266 posts)In terms of coming up with beneficial solutions.
I would love to be in on some of their private talks.
They know the players very well. And what buttons to push.
I am almost positive that all the Biden impeachment talk is just to get something from the Dems.
I think the traitor congress members want a get out of jail free card.
If they get that they will drop the impeachment talk.
Same thing with the Hunter lap top crapola. Just negotiating with the Dems.
I am kind of in the school of let the R's hang themselves.
Let them proceed as Obama would say.

(42,770 posts)that be good for the country? Flip side - is not very altruistic is it? Hoping they do crazy stuff so they look bad?

Irish_Dem
(81,266 posts)It is the discussion I hope they are having in DC.
Yes I agree, not impeaching Biden is good for the country.
But I hate to see the GOP traitors be given a get out of jail free in return.
My theory is that this is the main reason they are threatening impeachment.
In order to horse trade, to face no charges for their part in the insurrection.
I think it is altruistic to let the GOP show their true colors.
We are not making them look bad, they are already bad.
We just are not going to cover for them.
I am not hoping they do bad. I am hoping they do what is right.
But that is unlikely and I seen no need to protect them from themselves.
The truth needs to come out about them, so all can see their evil clearly.
Laura PourMeADrink
(42,770 posts)noticed they look bad. That strategy has not worked in what 6 yrs? But we've picked a lane and doubt we'd change at this point anyway.

(81,266 posts)Yes I wonder who wants to negotiate with Kevin.
It would be political suicide for Kevin to make nice with Dems.
Laura PourMeADrink
(42,770 posts)person he is. Any normal person would have said, after defeat, "Ok, I am backing out." Take away from tonight.. he's an incredibly weak/weird person. Aligning with Dems somehow a non starter? Like you have another path?
Like what CNN panelist said, "Hey McCarthy, my rug in my office is dirty, can I get a new one?" And " geez you get more if you oppose! vs. if you supported him"
Irish_Dem
(81,266 posts)He is so desperate he will work with the Dems which is more political suicide.
And good point, the ones who oppose him are getting way more than his supporters.

Laura PourMeADrink
(42,770 posts)explain as individuals why you switched?. Strikes me it would need to be the whole party, as an olive branch. Get something tho. Shared committee chairs, would be great!!!! In my mind, concrete outcome. Much better than just saying we're not helping the schmucks IMHO. Besides - it Will BE an R leader anyway. Word has it tho that KM refuses to work with Dems on this.
