(69,626 posts)that worked. This is truly disgusting. It seems that this what right fringe wanted to do, they are not interested in the issues, they want the burn things to the ground (as usual).

(26,526 posts)2021 memoir!
But I knew the truth. It was a story I would see played out over and over again in the next few years. It wasnt about any so-called principlesit was about chaos. But it was chaos that developed in a predictable pattern: the far-right knuckleheads would refuse to back the House leadership no matter what, but because they were insurgents they never had the responsibility of trying to actually fix things themselves. So they got to burn it all down and screw up the legislative process, which of course allowed them to continue to complain loudly about how Washingtons spending problem never got solved. That kept their favorite straw man alive to take more hits. And every time they punched him, they got another invitation to go on Fox News or talk radio, or they got another check from their friends in outside groups like DeMints outfit. It was their own little private stimulus plan.

(23,110 posts)The country disintegrated when this last happened in 1923?

(11,767 posts)It seems more dangerous because of the speed and reach of "news". We had a Civil War, we have had massive riots in the 1960's. We have been on the brink of nuclear war, over real situations, and "accidents".
The real danger going forward is that one of the 2 viable political parties has made a mockery of the idea of governing. This lays bare the bankrupt ideology that is Conservatism.

(7,964 posts)Yes it's fun to send put popcorn memes and enjoy the shitshow but the thing that counts in the end is do we have a working government, or not. And what can Democrats do to make that happen. Remember, the nutjobs are going to be doing the same shit when it comes time to fund the government, among other necessities. It's ultimately about whether the social safety net and the DOJ is funded.

(26,526 posts)Blowing up one of our houses of Congress trends toward "burn it all down" IMHO.

(26,526 posts)What they're really interested in is chaos. ...They want to throw sand in the gears of the hated federal government until it fails and they've finally proved that it's beyond saving.
Every time they vote down a bill, they get another invitation to go on Fox News or talk radio. It's a narcissistic -- and dangerous -- feedback loop."

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
