Cautionary point about hoping for Jeffries to be elected Speaker....

If it happened, he would still have a minority Democratic Caucus. To get anything passed, he'd have to negotiate with Republicans a lot more than folks here would want him to, and he'd always be subject to a majority vote to vacate the Speaker's chair.

Worse, the R's would undoubtedly get another "Pelosi" to make their "boogeyman." How many MAGATs would even know/remember that the R's have the majority?

power in the House.

I don't get why anyone would object to our taking the Speakership.

People will be mean? They're going to be mean anyway. We'll have to make deals? We are going to have to make deals anyway.

Neither of these are made worse by our having the Speakership.

12. Agreed. Jeffries as speaker at this point would be damaging to him and the Democrats.

Let the Republicans sort out their problems. Their house will be weakened no matter who they
eventually elect.

the absolute worst unthinkable happens, and both the President and Vice President are unable to continue in office.

I shudder to think what would happen to this country if any of the current crop of Q-GOP sociopaths somehow are able to take power.

Also, doesn't the Speaker get to make committee assignments?

For that reason alone I think the GOP Congress critters would rather burn the House down than allow a Democrat to assume the Speakership.
