What if Kevin McCarthy had had a shred of integrity

Last edited Wed Jan 4, 2023, 08:51 PM - Edit history (1)

and a true belief in the democratic system?

What if, after January 6th, he not only stuck with his denunciation of Trump, but had also called for an all out investigation of any House members who were part of the planning for the riot? What if he'd called for their censure and expulsion, and followed it up with urging criminal indictments for all involved? What if he'd denounced the Big Lie and all those spreading its odious scent across the political landscape?

Might he now be Speaker?

We'll never know, because "integrity" is not and evidently never has been a word in his vocabulary.

Edited to add, this from Ms. Betty Bowers: "I’m wondering if Kevin McCarthy had just done the right things, like expel Members who gave the location of the Speaker in realtime during an insurrection or trafficked/drugged underage girls, this week would have gone a little more to his liking…"

She says it so much better than I.

as far as the GOPers are concerned. The MAGAt caucus doesn't like him because he didn't suck up enough. He wouldn't be Speaker now if he'd done all the things you list; he'd have lost his re-election and been drummed out of the GOP.

He would have been primaried by some Trump loyalist and lost.

But that would have been less humiliating than this. Just ask Liz Cheney.
