NO Deal will work with the Dems because

the 20 will go ahead and vote for McCarthy rather than dealing with the Dems.
McCarthy will use it as leverage to entice the 20 to cave and leave the Dems holding a bag.

I keep saying if a group of 'moderate House Repugs' think about it - they might be able to save their Party if they come over to Jefferies and work with the Dems on bipartisan legislation.

Take their Party back to the traditional GOP and dump the crazies - and work together again.

If that don't happen - by 2024 we won't have a Repug Party.

Dems need to stay completely out of it. The only deal that can be made is if they support Jeffries for Speaker, frankly.

Screw helping them out.

Let their shitshow be on full display for all of America to see.

It's not up to us to fix their problems.

Media is starting to report that "committee ratios" might be something that could be the basis of a deal by the Dems with the GOP for backing a consensus Speaker of the House. This looks like "inside baseball" and I'd like to know more about its political subtleties. Anyone?

and Democrats are going to let him hang. He did nothing to try to even build a back-channel bridge to keep the comms open to Democrats and given the 24/7 insults even from the non-Freedumb caucus members twho can and will name call just like their brethren, they haven't learned humility.

So let them stew in it for awhile. The political media gets paid to fill air time and column inches with "reports" or "rumors of reports" or "propaganda-generated reports".

The federal government is funded until September 30, Biden got huge bills done over the past 2 years, and the debt ceiling issue won't rear it's ugly head until at the soonest, some time this summer (where "extraordinary measures" could then be taken to extend that out a few months)... So financially, it's not critical to even talk about any capitulation.

Make the GOP do the capitulation. They created the mess and we are sick and tired of cleaning up their messes.

And welcome to DU!

Moderately conservative Republican Jason Stephens, with the help of the Democratic Party, snatched the coveted Ohio House Speaker job Tuesday from a far-right lawmaker who was already elected speaker in a non-official party vote.

In the surprise upset, Stephens, R-Kitts Hill, who is allegedly pledging to stop far-right policies and act as a full moderate, is chosen as one of the most significant and influential leaders in the state.

“I pledge to respect and to work with each and every one of you,” Stephens said in his acceptance speech.

But just a few weeks ago the GOP had another candidate in mind.

I realize that a bunch here have a pipe dream that six will support Hakeem. That won't happen. We could, however, support a Republican on the basis of the terms laid out in Randy SF's post.
