Here is what Hakeem Jeffries should demand if approached by McCarthy for support.

1. A clean debt ceiling resolution.
2. Fifty-fifty party representation on all committees with at least 50% of chairs given to Democrats.
3. George Santos resigns.
4. Full ethics investigation of Scott Perry and other insurrectionists.
5. No impeachment votes unless real crimes are committed.
6. Metal detectors reinstalled.
7. Republicans AND Democrats allowed to preside over the floor in the speaker's absence.
8. No ACA repeal.
9. All conditions in writing and released to the public.

I can dream, right?

a Republican speaker who depends on us--wouldn't need to "trust" them. McCarthy, or anyone else.

Rather it would be a "fuck around and find out" situation.

It is not up to the Democrats to clean up the mess McCarty has made. This is SOLELY a reupblikkklan probem.

But I predict Democrats will approach a GOP moderate, to offer their support in the vote for Speaker. I don’t know who this person will be, but it won’t be McCarthy. After all, this same scenario just played out in the election of Speaker of the Ohio state legislature.

None of us knows what will happen next but this is my guess.

Actually if McCarthy ever actually agreed to any of these on your list, he'd lose so many Repuke votes that he couldn't win anyway. He's toast either way.

And THE SENATE appoints an interim Speaker, Hakeem Jeffries, obvi because he has consistently gotten more votes.

AND once the House Votes, SENATE must approve their choice.

Then Jeffries could get that done himself while the House flounders around.

He could make sure they get paid, so they wouldn't care. BUT the fine print would read that any of them found guilty of insurrection, would have to pay back said wages as they would be de-facto disqualified per Amendment 14 Section 3.
