(7,968 posts)The problem is that NO ONE can trust Kevin to keep his word on anything. Not one single thing. If we gave him 6 votes he could turn around and hand every committee over to the insurrectionists.

(5,076 posts)They know it.
They also said theyd rather Jeffries get it than him.
Hes their hostage and theyre not even negotiating, theyre just slowly torturing him to death. They are the BTK caucus. Its all a big joke to them.

(13,981 posts)Speaking with The Intercept, Ocasio-Cortez said Gaetz told her that House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy who is vying for the role of House speaker was trying to convince the GOP he could cut a deal with the Democratic Party to get the job.
In response, Ocasio-Cortez said she told Gaetz that the Democrats would not help McCarthy. McCarthy failed on three separate ballots Tuesday to get the votes he needed to secure the speakership. By the third vote, the number of people voting against him had gone up.
"McCarthy was suggesting he could get Dems to walk away to lower his threshold," Ocasio-Cortez told The Intercept. "And I fact-checked and said absolutely not."

(6,917 posts)There aren't any R's anyone can trust. The only deal the D's could ever make with the R's is one where the R's offer up something they can't possibly take back -- like a bunch of R's up and resigning, leaving the D's in the majority.
Disclaimer: I have no idea if that would even work.

(11,767 posts)McCarthy cannot secure 6 Democratic votes. His threat would be empty.
There is no reason whatsoever for the Democratic Party to do anything to help McCarthy. He is a worthless POS and deserves every bit of suffering he is going through.
McCarthy is part of the Crazy Caucus. There is no "normal" or "sane" caucus in the Republican Party. There are only the "Overtly Crazy and Ignorant" wing AND the "Slimy, Used Car Salesman" wing of the Crazy Caucus. McCarthy and Jordan belong to the latter and Boebert and Greene to the former.

(58,785 posts)Poetically understated.
139 voted for tRump's coup d'etat, and many others joined later and/or would flee from McCarthy for additional reasons, including virulent anti-Democratic factionalism and concern about their MAGA voters turning on them.

(7,367 posts)...there was some talk the other day.
But he was probably just trying to bribe a few in the purple districts by dangling a few small carrots. But was probably rebuffed and want much more and him to deal directly with Jeffries. Probably a bridge too far for him....for now.

(11,851 posts)Here are Keith's proposals:
1. Six Republicans (McCarthy included) vote to increase the debt ceiling.
2. Change the motion to vacate the chair rule from five members to 225.
3. The reincarnation of the Holman rule by MTG to defund the salaries of anyone trying to investigate Trump is dead.
4. None of the 20 idiots who tried to keep you from being elected (along with MTG) gets a chairmanship or a committee.
5. The Biden impeachment, the laptop committee investigating Hunter Biden, and the investigations of FBI, Twitter, Fauci, all dead.
6. Give four of your friends in the house whatever they want.
Now, the only question, of course, is would McCarthy keep his side of the bargain?

(5,104 posts)then #2 would be a brain-dead idea on Olbermann's part.
A low threshold for a speaker who is dependant on Democratic votes would be essential for ensuring our party's leverage.
What's Olbermann thinking???
