That it may not take until 2024 before Democrats retake the House.

(5,530 posts)She didnt know, because, the psychic was somewhat normal before. Her predictions were that there would be a Civil War and nuclear war this year of good vs. evil, where the Republicans are the good side.
Trump would lead the charge into battle as the second coming of Jesus vs. the Anti-Christ Biden. Then, as Trump is victorious, all souls will go to heaven for eternity.
I dont know when the psychic turned batshit crazy, but, I swear MAGA Id just brainworms in disguise.

sometime before summer...Gym Jordan is top of the list...plus Pa. Scott Perry.
They predicted in late November that 2023 Congress will be in total chaos as it is demonstrating now.
Irish_Dem
(47,489 posts)I think what is going on now is some attempt to get protection from indictments.
So maybe not too far off a prediction.

(12,452 posts)can go on for months but ..... there is a sense that 5 to 6 moderate republicans will show up for a vote and then leave for maybe an illness or family emergency...then some will just call off sick....leaving Mr. Jefferies become the Speaker....
a passive way to solve the problem.
Irish_Dem
(47,489 posts)That would be one way to do it.

(28,086 posts)because they don't get insurance (or paid) until they're sworn in.
Of course, having big medical bills might be a good lesson though more likely it would only hurt newer members who haven't received their Koch money yet.
Irish_Dem
(47,489 posts)And I am sure the MOC will back date all benefits and pay.
The insurance companies are not going to cross their benefactors.

(28,086 posts)BTW I too could be called an "Irish_Dem". I'm old enough that I was raised to believe that "IrishCatholicDemocrat" was one word. Though I have pretty much dropped the "Catholic" part.
Irish_Dem
(47,489 posts)I know, the catholic part is hard to claim.
But I am a cultural catholic in minimal ways.
Still say Hail Marys, etc.
And I can still cuss like an Irish Catholic.

(5,697 posts)If they must remove themselves, then there would be enough of them gone to not have the majority in the House which gives us the House, Senate, and Presidency. Anybody?
wnylib
(21,648 posts)just being indicted is not enough reason for them to resign. With Rs in the majority, it's also unlikely that they would be forced to leave. After all, an indictment is not a conviction. Innocent until proven guilty.
After indictment, trials could take until 2024 to play out. So I don't think that it's likely that Rs in Congress will lose a seat before the 2024 elections. Even if convicted before then, there will be appeals and a refusal by the Rs to accept any convictions as valid.
llmart
(15,556 posts)their behavior right now shows that they're a vindictive bunch, so there may be quite a few who would take an indictment as an opportunity to get back at them when this is all said and done.

What ensues, would be GQP members either stabbing each other in the back, but also having enough rope to hang themselves.
jcgoldie
(11,652 posts)With the extent of gerrymandered districts that gop relies on... it would be pretty unlikely that 4 casualties occur in districts that are actually competitive.

(20,014 posts)he desperately wants to be chairman of the House Judiciary Committee? Does he have a crazy plan to use the position to stay out of jail?

(1,324 posts)How can McCarthy protect the insurrectionists against being indicted? Isnt that up to DOJ?
Irish_Dem
(47,489 posts)And it is quite possible the DOJ does not want to indict 20 or more sitting members of congress.
So a deal could be cut in my opinion.
I think a deal may have already been made by McConnell for Cruz and Hawley.
We will see as time goes by what deals have been cut and by whom.
In DC deals are cut all the time to protect and cover for politicians.
It is the way DC works.

(164 posts)A Judiciary Committee chairman can throw a BIG monkey wrench into an investigation by the DoJ or any other level of government (including state and local). Can you imagine being a prosecutor trying to get a conviction when the Judiciary Committee is intentionally trashing the prosecution? A defense attorney has "reasonable doubt" to present to the jury before the first piece of evidence or the first witness testimony. That is a tough, tough, tough ask.
My take: Jordan isn't just covering his own ass, he wants to flying top cover for all his treasonous co-conspirators.

You could spend your time, trying to stay out of prison or owning lib'tards.
