I don't hear the Clerk announce at the end that they can change their vote, so I'm guessing not, but I'm not sure...
EDIT: I'm also thinking this is the case since C-SPAN will call the vote against McCarthy once it hits a certain amount of Other votes, but I just wondered if anyone knew for sure...

(10,333 posts)And how would a reputable organization like C-SPAN be able to call it against McCarthy if a member could simply change their vote at any time?

(62,536 posts)Usually when they do a recorded vote the Speaker and clerk will give a few minutes time for people who want to "correct" their vote, since it's digitally tallied.
The time eventually runs out to get it through though, and they don't sit around waffling. 5 minutes past, when the clerks are tallying? No do, your fault for not getting your vote in.

(10,333 posts)Which is why I asked.
And when they usually are allowed to change their vote, they say so (see: the votes on adjournment), but the Clerk has not said the same sort of thing on the votes for Speaker. Instead, she just goes through the names of those who have not had a vote recorded and asks for their vote and then says anyone not voting can come to the Well to vote.

(61,857 posts)Why CNN says "appears to" suffer a defeat before the gavel goes down: Members-elect have the ability to change their votes before the vote is gaveled over. CNN is following along and tallying the voice votes as they happen, but it's important to be clear that anything could technically change before the vote ends.
