apparently they thought with gaetz voting present that had enough voting members to put mccarthy over the top, but turns out he only had 50% exactly of the voting members, not 50%+1

final tally was 216 mccarthy, 212 jeffres, 4 other, 2 present (gaetz+boebert)

which is fucking hilarious.

that put the threshold back to 218. The 2 "presents" took it down to 217, but they needed either 1 more "present" or 1 more McCarthy vote from the holdouts.
