Media focus reminder--they do or do not focus to benefit RepubliQans (Original Post) live love laugh Jan 2023 OP
Are you suggesting that the increase in crime coverage was "made up" to benefit Republicans? brooklynite Jan 2023 #1
The increased FOCUS was "made up" not the crime stats. live love laugh Jan 2023 #2
Again, I'll disagree. VIOLENT crime is definitely up in NYC, SF, etc. brooklynite Jan 2023 #3
It's up but coverage is down. Coverage only spiked during election season. live love laugh Jan 2023 #5
No it didn't... brooklynite Jan 2023 #6
I guess the graph is wrong then. 🤷🏽‍♀️ live love laugh Jan 2023 #7
No, the graph is correct because violent crime increased in the last year. brooklynite Jan 2023 #8
Isn't the graph about media coverage of crime? live love laugh Jan 2023 #9
pretty much, yes dsc Jan 2023 #10

As someone who lives in the big city, I can say that denying people’s perceptions of crime and safety is a great way to get them to not vote for you.

There was no correlating increase in actual crime during that high-coverage period that justified the increase in coverage.

The Republican Owned Media spotlights and broadcasts what benefits them politically. It also mutes or criticizes and blames Democrats—like asking what they would do about the Speaker issue.

If this wasn’t true, President Biden’s January 6th ceremonies wouldn’t have been cut short on some TV stations. And there would’ve been questions over the duration of the Speaker Election Show during the past few days about the antagonists and their crimes.

If so, and if crime is up why did media coverage fall off a cliff? Crime didn’t.

The fact is crime, is at worst, up slightly from last year and not even remotely close to as bad as the 1980's and early 1990's. The media in New York in particular, made it look like we were experiencing an unprecedented crime wave when that wasn't remotely close to the truth. Santos is in Congress now precisely due to the press doing a shitty job.
