Isn't McCarthy pretty safe from a motion to vacate unless Dems vote to remove him too?

Considering 90% of Republicans were with McCarthy all along without a struggle, I doubt many Republicans would join in to oust him just because he does something "outrageous" (in the minds of the Chaos Caucus) like allowing the debt ceiling to be raised with the help of Democrats.

I don't see anything Democrats would have to gain by joining in with the temper tantrum brigade, unless a real possibility for a more moderate, less compromised Speaker existed.

218 votes are needed to oust the Speaker. I'm now thinking McCarthy's position is a lot more secure than I'd been imagining before. Am I missing something?

...was in the wings, that's my point. If I'm reading this correctly, that would seem to make the motion to vacate a fairly empty threat.

It's going cause delays and chaos. McCarthy will be sorry he ever signed off on it.

9. The motion to vacate is "privileged", yes, but I don't think it supercedes all activity

Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think a member of the House can utterly halt all House activity by making a motion to vacate, losing that vote, and simply making the motion over again ad infinitum.

These assholes can slow things down, and cause McCarthy endless embarrassment, but I don't believe they can't grind everything to a halt with this tactic.

which calls for an hours-long count like we saw last night.

It's a disastrous rule.

They stayed sold thru 15 votes. If Kev wants to survive the next 2 years, he has to become friends with Hakeem.

and save his ass--if we chose to, and if it is to our political benefit.

Democrats won't need to vote in favor.

Ol' Kevin is in a "fuck around and find out" situation with our party.

We have extraordinary House leadership (what a team!) and they know exactly how to play this scenario.
