NYS Democratic Party defends midterm performance in report, tells critics to 'pick up the phone'

Albany Times-Union

ALBANY — Democrats did not underperform in the recent midterm election, a report released by the state party last week asserted, skirting criticism of Democrats’ get-out-the vote efforts and chalking up lackluster results mostly to an unusually robust Republican turnout.

The report, commissioned by the New York Democratic Committee to assess the party’s midterm performance — which has been criticized as the result of a series of missteps by party leaders — was sent to county chairs and other party officials early last week and attempted to explain Democrats’ performance in a state that has long skewed blue.

Democrats retain a significant voter enrollment advantage in the state and won each statewide election, as the report points out. But Democrat Gov. Kathy Hochul narrowly won her race in the closest gubernatorial election since 1994. Democrats also lost four previously blue congressional seats in an election where, nationally, a predicted "red wave" failed to materialize.

In an interview, state Democratic Party Chairman Jay Jacobs said the report repudiates some of the criticism directed at both the state party and at him. In the days immediately following the election, Jacobs faced mounting calls to resign from hundreds of Democrats, including state legislators.

appointed by Cuomo, gave the GOP 5 seats.
And Santos won that district by less than Lee Zeldin took it for Governor.

shitshow, plus supported the Independent Democratic Conference (IDC) ie. conservadems who caucused with the Rethugs, to prevent Dem Control of the NY Senate and allow that all to happen, plus, like you said, he stacked the courts with conservatives.

All that in his obsessive, never-ending war to try and block and smash the left third to half of elected NY Dems. He is a big reason as to why we lost the US House in 2022. We would have had 219 to 221 seats (and that is if no other states changed) if that original NY Dem map had been adapted. Some of the other Blue states also adapted foolish non partisan redistricting schemes in the 2010s too.

We unilaterally disarmed, whilst the Rethuga doubled down HARD.. Hell, if just 2,703 votes had flipped from D to R in OR-6, half of deep Blue Oregon's US House delegation would be Rethug. We got fucked in some CA districts as well, plus some other Blue states. If not for the disarmament, we would have ended up around 225 to 230 seats I estimate. We also lost a good number of seats to just recent Rethug redistricting shenanigans. Maybe 10 to 15 (very rough guess).

plus while the courts in Blue States struck down redistricting, Courts in Red States said they were unconstitutional, and then let them stand.
And of course, Roberts doesn't believe in voting rights.

say what you will about Florida but at least they acknowledge that there was a rather large problem. We got our clocks cleaned in a bunch of competitive races there and that never should have happened. Remember, at the end of the races they had visits from Biden, and both Clintons while places like NC were forced to do without. She barely did better than the candidates in WI and OR who were known to be in real trouble the entire race and come from the ultimate swing state (WI) and had two opponents (OR) who were supported by a billionaire. NY almost single handedly cost us the House and hurt our Senate chances by hogging resources that WI and NC actually needed. This we did nothing wrong mentality is absurd.
