https://m.dailykos.com/stories/2023/1/9/2146352/-Special-Counsel-Jack-Smith-Subpoenas-Giuliani#comment_85357893Special counsel Jack Smiths team has subpoenaed Donald Trumps former attorney Rudy Giuliani, asking him to turn over records to a federal grand jury as part of an investigation into the former presidents fundraising following the 2020 election, according to a person familiar with the subpoena.
The subpoena, which was sent more than a month ago and has not been previously reported, requests documents from Giuliani about payments he received around the 2020 election, when Giuliani filed numerous lawsuits on Trumps behalf contesting the election results, the person said.
Prosecutors have also subpoenaed other witnesses who are close to Trump, asking specifically for documents related to disbursements from the Save America PAC, Trumps primary fundraising operation set up shortly after the 2020 election, according to other sources with insight into the probe.

(16,412 posts)He's really just getting started in a lot of ways. Expecting him to march right in and start indicting people is a bit unrealistic, imo.
This sounds like a positive development to me. It shows that Smith is continuing on with the investigation, which is exactly what he should be doing right now. He can't just take whatever may have already done and run with it. There are inevitably going to be things that he'll need to dig into further, gaps to be filled in, ground that he'll need to go back over even someone may have already worked on,, etc.
And Rudy has Never been subpoenaed by the DOJ until now, so this is a brand new development. If he refuses to comply, he can be sent to jail like Bannon was. I think this is actually pretty exciting.
