Dozens more were injured on Monday in the city of Juliaca in some of the worst violence since ex-President Pedro Castillo was arrested last month for trying to dissolve Congress.
His supporters have been protesting and blockading roads for weeks.
They say new President Dina Boluarte must go, and want snap elections.

(100,999 posts)I was tired when I posted. I was referring more to the influence of Bannon and the like, fomenting a sense of empowerment for the brute force and ignorance crowd of racist authoritarians.

(4,298 posts)sooner or later one of our allies is going to undergo a similar insurrection and NATO will have to engage. Wait for it.
If the fascists can't win honestly or can't get their way they will set the world on fire. People world-wide must NOT give in to them or be afraid to do what is right under their laws. Lawlessness cannot be allowed to rule the day in democracies.

(23,558 posts)It is obvious the attack on Brazil was planned and coordinated by Bannon and drumpf right here with Bozo. Then Peru exploded two days later?
If I were a member of the world community I would be calling Biden today and asking the USA to kindly get its shit together and prosecute our insurrectionists before they plunge the entire globe into chaos.
No more delays. Get drumpf indicted. Deport Bozo. Lock Bannon up for contempt of Congress.

(97 posts)I'm not quite sure what the "it" is that is "happining" in the OP, but it looks like the opposite of Jan 6 to me (i.e, the country and good guys in Peru lost, lost fast, and lost hard).
So, Mr. Lefty Local gets legit elected Prez, legit exercises Article 134 of the Peru Constitution (Prez's right to dissolve legislature: https://www.constituteproject.org/constitution/Peru_2021.pdf?lang=en), and the minions of the oligarchs go illegit nuclear on him.
I can't even point to Peru on a map, but I have this situation in the Fishy as Fuck category.
Wrong?

(5,104 posts)It is a feature of populism to destroy all civic institutions that give liberal societies resilience against mob rule and autocracy.
And we are seeing the fruits of the Age of Populism play out with violence and instability around the globe.
Populism is toxic and a perennial threat to liberal democracy.
