RawStory
In a column in the Daily Beast by attorney Shan Wu, GOP glee about President Joe Biden documents from his years as Vice President Barrack Obama discovered in a locked storage room at the Penn Biden Center is much ado about nothing.
On Monday it was revealed an attorney working for the president discovered the documents and immediately notified the National Archives so that they could retrieve them.
That, in turn, led Republicans to seize on the news as a way of trying to undercut the DOJ investigation of Donald Trump's boxes of documents kept at his Mar-a-Lago resort that he refused to return until the FBI obtained a search warrant to enter and seize them.

(32,084 posts)we likely wouldn't be hearing about this, until down the road, when there are mentions that Biden gets slapped with a fine. And, that is if it doesn't turn out to be the Archive's screw up. Or, it turns out Biden has been following proper protocol, but his lawyers didn't know that when they discovered the documents.

(11,312 posts)and spin this in the best possible light. But that isn't going to slow the Rs down a bit. And they're right. You have in a single stroke effectively discredited and destroyed all of the high ground the government (and Biden and the Dems) held here. You managed not only shoot yourself in the foot - you went and got a 10 gauge and blew the sucker off!
Spin away. Tell me how this, "means nothing" and "differences" and "doesn't really matter"
In the real world (the one in which we all live) - fat chance.

It doesn't matter to Jack Smith. rw echo chamber is getting smaller daily. They demonstrate this insanity with everything they do. Cut SS-- go for it geniuses.

(37,056 posts)IF republicans and their supporters had any integrity. If so, they would insist that all presidents Who engaged in any extralegal activity would be held accountable for said actions. But they dont have integrity and their whataboutism is as effective as a lone fart in a hurricane to people with integrity.

Classified documents, apparently unknown and unaccounted for, squirreled away in some forgotten 'closet' - and warning bells go off the moment they're discovered. It is a (desperately small) caveat that the Biden team did attempt to handle this better upon discovery. (to which the Rs are only going to say, "well, of course you did - after pillorying TFG for months on end for the same thing!".) But that doesn't really alter the fact that the documents were removed, handled casually, forgotten, and then come to light only during a 'clean up' operation.
And the over arching fact remains - Joe Biden 'F'-d up! Capital 'F'! Came at wonderful time (w/ Trump foundering). And it destroyed ('undercut' if you prefer kinder appellations) a lot of the high ground that the government (and Dems) had on the issue. You can try to make lemonade if you want to ... Ain't gonna' fly.

(22,578 posts)you've lost the high ground to those who have done the same much more and deliberately. And all the protests that it is not the same just seem to be excuses making it seem to be the same.
I know I am very disappointed by this news.

(2,521 posts)Attorney General Merrick Garland has assigned the U.S. attorney in Chicago to review documents marked classified that were found at the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement in Washington, two sources with knowledge of the inquiry told CBS News. The roughly 10 documents are from President Biden's vice-presidential office at the center, the sources said. CBS News has learned the FBI is also involved in the U.S. attorney's inquiry.

(33,345 posts)but this is America.
False Equivalence is still equivalence when you've got a 1000 AM stations yelling from the same script into the ears of the least informed people on the planet. Americans simply aren't savvy enough to understand or care about the difference.
Trump was never going to be charged in the NARA case, regardless. The DOJ has no stomach for those optics, before or after this discovery.
