(787 posts)and New York city. It's been pretty much all over the country. The democrats have to acknowledge this is going on and not run away from it. The more they do the more they will get disdain from Asians. This also gets multiplied when Asians see Affirmative action preventing them or their kids getting into elite schools. I don't have a clear-cut answer for how to fix these problems, but they are now magnified.

(10,896 posts)You're dismissing problems and telling them what's up out of your useful political perspective.
People don't tend to like that sort of thing.

(10,896 posts)And the community is highly, highly aware of it.
If I repeated what my Democratic AAPI in-laws and friends say about how our side has handled anti-Asian hate crimes, my post would probably be hidden.
It's a problem.

(1,983 posts)Many Asian Americans I know feel that colleges and elite high schools feel free to actively discriminate against them. They may agree that other minorities are underrepresented and should receive help, but they feel that the reforms always come at the expense of Asian Americans, and nobody ever cares.
The changes to the admissions systems at New York City's elite high schools hurt Asian American enrollment a lot. I wouldn't be surprised if that led to a change in voting patterns.

Author and journalist Asra Q. Nomani, whose own son was affected by the years-long practice at Thomas Jefferson, broke the news in a City Journal piece last month, noting that those most affected were Asian Americans.

(1,983 posts)Asian Americans made up over 70% of the student body before the proposed changes. Under the changes, Asian American enrollment fell from 73% to 54%; every other measured group increased their enrollment.

We should be supporting the community more in what they've been dealing with, because we haven't been very good on it so far. Unless the attacker is a right-winger, it's see no evil hear no evil.
That has to change. If we're silent to violence - and a lot of us have been - are we not complicit?

(82,383 posts)Can't please everybody. It's one group or another "punishing" the Democrats by shooting themselves in the foot. And not being part of it either. Be active in the party and make this known rather than sit back and say "they aren't doing enough for me."

(10,896 posts)Is that your argument?
Because if that's your argument, you're basically reading the article and saying, "Hold my beer. I can make the point for them."
