Public Health: This is how many lives could have been saved with COVID vaccinations in each state

Today, after hearing about the death of one of the Diamond & Silk pair from Covid and now reading about Cirtsten Weldon also dying of Covid, I was wondering how many folks could have been saved had they had the covid vaccination.

Both of them were anti-vaxers.

Found this article about the numbers - as of April 2022, nearly 319,000 COVID-19 deaths could have been averted if all adults had gotten vaccinated.

The anti-vax crowd really needs to wise up and get vaccinated.

it was reported in November that Lynette Hardaway (Diamond) was hospitalized with COVID and was not until Dec 15 (according to reports) that she returned to appear online with her sister on their show and then not again.

Given their long anti-vaxxer/COVID as myth personas/schtick, I'd guess we will never hear a confirmed COD.

The people who need to be the most careful about Covid, the unvaccinated, are the least careful. And the fully vaccinated have the least to worry from Covid, but are still careful with testing, social distancing when possible, and mask wearing.

I still here stories from Righties about Covid. They still don't think it's a big deal, they get it and won't social distance. When they do test positive, they just don't give a shit and go about their lives like normal, spreading it everywhere. I know a right wing family who got Covid and still went to family Christmas and now everyone has Covid in the family.

If you stay up to date on your Covid vaccines, go about your life, Covid is probably less dangerous than the flu to you.

5. re: "Covid is probably less dangerous than the flu to you." VERY BAD ASSUMPTION

You ignore the impact of long COVID which we are increasingly seeing develop in those who had even mild prior illness.

Influenza can be deadly in the elderly and those most at risk from combined illness, but once cleared of the virus (assuming no secondary bacterial infections), there should not be chronic impacts.

6. Long flu is a thing too

"There were signs that Covid patients were more likely to have long-term symptoms - 42% had at least one symptom recorded compared with 30% in the flu group."

Again, if you are fully vaxxed, long Covid is less likely too. Long Covid is less likely by 15-20% for those that are vaccinated depending on the study. So long Flu is about the same liklihood as Long Covid for those fully vaccinated against Covid.

somewhat persistent following infection with many viruses, including the common respiratory viruses like flu, metapneumovirus, adenovirus, and other parainfluenza viruses--even common rhinoviruses with the very serious long-form illness following COVID-19, which has been shown to infect nearly every organ in the body in post-mortem exams.

Not at ALL the same. Word to the wise.

15. Wrong. This poorly conducted, non-reviewed study is conflating post-viral syndrome

which is not uncommon with many respiratory viruses, including influenza, Metapneumovirus, multiple parainfluenza viruses, even rhinovirus and adenovirus-- is typically short-term and non-specific in terms of the defined syndrome as I've already addressed in my previous posts with the actual long COVID syndrome. Apples and oranges.

Beyond that, I have the background and clinical and epidemiological experience to judge studies. This one is speculative crap that is conflating just about everything possible with no valid case definitions, clinical validation, nor methodology. There is a reason for peer-review and the move to pre-publication/pre-review online posting is problematic for just this reason. It is useful for other researchers to use for hypothesis generation but the general lay public and the media often misreads it and runs with it. As well as those who want to downplay the risks of COVID-19 infection, or claim it is all a "hoax" and to promote anti-vaxxer BS.

You are wrong. Be wise. Influenza can be deadly--especially in those predisposed to a secondary bacterial pneumonia and a leading cause of death in the elderly. But, that isn't what we are discussing here. Recovery from uncomplicated influenza does not carry the same risks for long term serious sequelae as COVID-19--a virus shown to infect every organ of the body on post-mortem autopsies.

9. Feeling down tonight. Got a call from an old friend who lives in Clear Lake area of Houston
Tue Jan 10, 2023, 09:36 PM
Jan 2023

who is traveling to San Antonio to see his son tomorrow and wanted to come by and visit (Austin area) on his way home. I told him I would love to see him but I just don't want to take a chance on getting sick because I have two kinds of cancer and although I am in remission my immune system is subpar and I just don't want to take a chance on getting sick. He has had a bad cold (or something) for the last 4-6 weeks and is much better now. But regardless of that I am content to isolate myself with my DW and I tried to explain that to him but he was offended?? I talk to him on a regular basis but I still feel a bit guilty. But I honestly do not want to take a chance on getting sick and I feel like that should be my decision.

I'm mostly disappointed in my friends attitude. Given the choice - seeing him or continuing to stay healthy - I chose to not take a chance.

Am I being extreme? I can't help it. I'm 72 and having gone through Chemo, radiation, and now getting over it I just do not want to take a chance.....did I say that already

Any feedback would be appreciated - please be totally honest.

on FaceTime or WhatsApp. If you friend can have empathy/compassion for your health situation, he's being very inconsiderate.

Hugs to you. And continue to take care of you - that's your priority while we are still dealing with Covid.

he will realize the risk he was asking you to take and that he was wrong. Sometimes we all get hurt feelings right away, but when we hsvse time to think, we realize our first feelings were wrong.
