(8,387 posts)Pedal misapplication happens in all kinds of cars.
The person mistakenly believes they have their foot on the brake, and so they keep pressing harder.
It's really not a matter of incompetence, it is just a simple perceptual error which occurred at that moment, and which unfortunately generates a positive feedback loop.

(65,056 posts)I had one of those. 1973 Runabout. (The model that WASN'T a hatchback.)
Acceleration was so low that you could time zero to 60 on a watch without a second hand!
The only way that car could do 90mph was by dropping it out of a plane.
I drove it until my second year out of college, replacing it with a Cougar XR7. But, for what it was, it was a perfectly acceptable car.
