"SNIP.......

“Asian Americans have typically formed a crucial and reliable voting bloc for Democrats in recent years, helping the party maintain its political dominance in liberal states like New York,” the New York Times reports.

“But Republicans shattered that presumption in November when they came within striking distance of winning the governor’s race in New York for the first time in 15 years, buoyed in part by a surge of support among Asian American voters in southern Brooklyn and eastern Queens.”

it was Trump and the Republicans who created the environment that resulted in so many attacks on the Asian community. I don’t know why Democrats are being blamed.

I suppose it's a nice hypocrisy if you can bake it.

We give far more money to police departments than we did in the early 90's and they did better with clearance rates despite the fact there were higher crime rates back then.

30 years of coddling Cops and the hero worship after 9-11 has resulted in cops that don't do as good a job as they did 30 years ago despite all the high tech shit they have now. They have have become entitled to having everything their own way all the time, and fight accountability at every turn. I remember 30 years ago when cops hated a department's internal affairs division. Now, it seems those divisions exist to protect or justify cops bad behaviors than to hold them accountable.

If we treated cops like the Republicans propose we treat public school teachers (on performance), we would be defunding them. Not saying we should, but I am pointing out how increases in crime are never blamed on shitty police work.

in psychiatric crisis especially. Somewhere in Canada is doing a test unit and they reduce those going both to jail and those going to hospitals. Like by 75 % or so. That saves money. Things like that. Frankly police in many parts of the USA are paid shit wages. There is some propaganda that you don't want police to be too smart. Ridiculous. You get what you pay for and Republicans seem to want isolated police who are incompetent. They seem to want dead Americans if you look at GOP policies over the years. Police are just another tool in the NRA, anti-mask, end medicare, end ss, end obamacare, ignore climate change toolbox. I would not add to that toolbox by isolating police from their communities any more.

When it comes to crime. I can understand why people are looking for alternatives in leadership. I live in Philadelphia and people of all races and backgrounds are sick of the seeming indifference to quality of life crimes. People steal at will from stores and no one does anything about it. Muggings, beatings, shootings are out of control and our DA either doesn’t charge the perps or lets them out without bail. His office looks for any excuse to let these people go. There isn’t a single day that goes by that I don’t see people openly shooting up on the subway platforms. Junkies are everywhere, robbing cars, robbing packages off of people’s steps as soon as they’re delivered, menacing the elderly, pissing and shitting right on the street, it’s disgusting. My mother is scared to death just to walk to the corner store and locks her house up like Fort Knox. And she and my dad live in a fairly decent neighborhood. These are supposed to be the golden years and having to worry about this bullshit just isn’t right. Everyone is fed up with the apparent leniency being shown to bad actors at the expense of decent, hard working people.

I’m all for justice reform but to me that means making sure innocent people aren’t being locked up for shit they didn’t do and that those who have are released. It does not mean letting criminals run rampant because they come from a poor background or because people have been wrongly accused or convicted in the past.

As a result, people are looking toward “tough on crime” candidates even if they disagree completely with the other policy positions these candidates hold and even if their other policy positions hurt them in other ways.

We need to figure something out because we’re losing a lot of people who should be on our side.
