(1,751 posts)I can do 100 days standing on my head. Put your head down. Shut up. Stay in protective custody. It's not a big deal. Read books and pace the yard during your 1 hour. Next thing you know it's back to the Hamptons. This guy got off easy

(13,920 posts)He still has money. Money buys favors. And he will likely be protected.
Unless you think there are enough MAGA's there to cause a problem for someone they think betrayed the orange one.

(17,444 posts)Because Rikers is extremely violent and rife with staffing issues and security failures.
It is yet to be seen whether he will be "protected".
Also, he's 75 years old I believe. It's a harsh environment for anyone, let alone someone his age who is used to living a charmed life.
It's jail. It's not supposed to be like summer camp.

(44,131 posts)Weisselberg admitted he should have paid taxes on off-the-books compensation, totaling roughly $200,000 in one year, which included a luxury Manhattan apartment overlooking the Hudson River, two Mercedes Benz car leases, parking, utilities, furniture and private school tuition for his grandchildren.
Judge Juan Merchan on Tuesday said had he not already promised a five-month sentence to Weisselberg, he would have issued a stiffer sentence "much greater" than five months after listening to evidence at trial.
Snip
The sentencing caps one long-running investigation -- but it comes as the Manhattan district attorney's office continues to investigate the Trump Organization. Prosecutors are conducting a wide-ranging investigation involving the accuracy of the companies' financial statements, and in recent months its focus has returned to the company's involvement in hush-money payments made to silence adult film star Stormy Daniels from going public with an affair with Trump just before the 2016 election, people familiar with the matter said. Trump has denied the affair.
Weisselberg's legal woes are not over. He is also a defendant in a $250 million civil lawsuit brought by New York Attorney General Letitia James, who has alleged Trump, his three eldest children, Weisselberg and others defrauded lenders, insurers and tax authorities by inflating the value of multiple Trump Organization properties for more than a decade. Trump has denied wrongdoing and said the lawsuit is politically motivated.

(9,998 posts)He protected his boss, who by the way, was still paying him while he was testifying. I'm sure he'll be compensated nicely for his "sacrifice."

(21,351 posts)Michael Cohen said today that Weisselberg perjured himself on the stand to protect Trump's fat ass.
5 month sentence is shameful, he not only did not cooperate, he lied on the stand, prosecutors should have asked for a stiffer sentence because of that.

(9,998 posts)Meanwhile, DOJ can't seem to get enough evidence to indict Teflon Man for jack shit.
But we're reminded here daily about how extensive and complex the "investigation" is, and just be patient.

(7,282 posts)Our Rock-Solid, Air-Tight -wait and see friends, ignore this fact.
Don't know why. Maybe it's true faith albeit delusional.
Just remember the facts in this OP. There is no other answer except the obvious. Apparently it needs to be repeated over and over again. If and When they should ever stop defending this very broken and corrupt system, and use their influence to help change things, maybe just maybe faith can be restored.

Kalief Browder was 16 years old when he was sent to Rikers Island, an infamous detention center in New York City, on a charge of stealing a book bag.
Browder spent more than 1,000 days there awaiting trial including 700 days in solitary confinement because he refused to plead guilty to a crime he didnt commit.
After prosecutors finally dropped the charge in 2013, Browder earned his GED and began attending community college. But in 2015, after three psychiatric hospitalizations and two previous suicide attempts, he hanged himself.

Why does Weisselberg plead guilty to all 15 charges if it is just a political witch hunt?

(10,011 posts)white collar also usually means white people doing the crimes. We have two systems of justice in this country, yet conservatives still claim that we have no systemic racism. Try telling that to poor people in Alabama or Mississippi who do not get quality healthcare. We have systemic racism in nearly every facet of life here.

(10,182 posts)For sex trafficking in Florida. That's not considered white collar crime. And he was selling white girls and women into slavery. So I guess white girls don't get that privilege of avoiding real jail time either.
So, I guess only filthy rich white men get that extra special leniency. The Royals and Epstein's buddy Trump never were held accountable for their involvement in sex trafficking and probably never will.

Yes, filthy rich white men get extra leniency, but they are still at risk in jail, prison, or at home. If someone wants them dead there's a good chance that will happen.

(5,164 posts)prosecuting him, and now sentencing him to prison, albeit only for 5 months... when if ever will the powers that be hold accountable he and those who are really responsible for all of this(not only tax fraud but everything) and for the murders of millions of Americans and others.
I don't believe from what I heard he gave huge information on anyone.
Is this the best that can be done? If so it is a joke.
Dumpster was protected for years against any investigations and prosecutions for tax fraud and for everything else.
