(39,120 posts)If you're at work, you should probably stay there - better than in a car between shelters.

(43,049 posts)there's postings of heavy buildings in the area that are safer than home and set up as shelters.
You're not that far from Atlanta, so there should be lots of news. We don't want to see you as a statistic, even if your house does land on a wicked witch.

My grandmother had one in Eastern Colorado when I lived out there many years ago.

(320,552 posts)We entered it only from outside the House with one of those huge flat doors.
She kept preserves and homemade canned goods down there.
I didn't realize the importance of it since I had never been in a Tornado.
Years later my Mom's hometown, Limon Colorado, about 10 minutes away got Flattened by a Tornado.. I don't think anyone was killed.. Amazingly enough!
This happened on June 6, 1990.. so 32 1/2 years ago now

A car is the last place you want to be in a tornado.

(34,998 posts)The first wave should be coming through within the hour. The worst of it in about two hours. I hope it weakens significantly before it gets here, as these things tend to do.

(80,334 posts)I see the storms have indeed moved out of my area.
But it was scary for a while - loud thunder, strong winds and pelting, beating rain.
I just went outside to check and when it stops raining I have a lot of debris to clean up in the yard.
That wind was fierce!!!

(12,786 posts)Right before sunset. We had hail and rapidly changing heavy winds. Glads it's done with.
They had a tornado alert earlier but that has been removed. We are to expect snow later this evening. It was 70 degrees out this afternoon.
Ain't global climate change grand?

(15,001 posts)I live in the southern portion of tornado alley. It seems like we're under watch half the time.
Now, if it turns into a tornado warning, turn on the TV and fire up the weather radar.
