https://www.idahostatesman.com/opinion/editorials/article271094362.htmlEvery session of the Idaho Legislature, we can expect a Republican legislator to say something embarrassing that makes Idaho a laughingstock of the nation, like when Rep. Charlie Shepherd, R-Pollock, argued against an early literacy grant that makes it easier or more convenient for mothers to come out of the home and let others raise their child.
Or when Rep. Vito Barbieri, R-Dalton Gardens, suggested that women could swallow a camera to check on their pregnancy.
But usually we have to wait a couple of weeks for a legislator to say something like that.
Not this session.
Barely two days into the new session, Rep. Jack Nelsen, R-Jerome, uttered some strange words of wisdom in a committee hearing.
Ive milked a few cows, spent most of my time walking behind lines of cows, so if you want some ideas on repro and the womens health thing, I have some definite opinions, said Nelsen, who was a partner in a dairy and farming operation in Jerome for 45 years.

(6,210 posts)Believe me, the ass end of a cow ain't anywhere near as pretty as the back side of a woman.
I don't have to be a farmer to see that.
A word of advice Jack, best to keep silent and have people think you're a fool, than to speak up and remove all doubt.

(28,342 posts)It's NOT about being compared physically to a cow. It's about being regarded as not fully human. It's about being regarded as a thing, to be used, to be bred, to be maintained and controlled for the purposes of men.
Men need to contemplate this more fully. Take it in. Digest it. Understand it. We're through asking. This is not a request.

(6,210 posts)I do get it. If he's comparing you to a cow, he is indicating that you are less than human.
My attempt at humor in this situation apparently didn't hit the mark...sorry about that.
But, this is all about that guy. His reference to a cow was crystal clear that women are no better than herd animals that are kept for the pleasure of men.
I was suggesting that his view of the world was pretty much limited to looking at a cow's ass...not very enlightened.
