It has been said I post tons of predictions on DU. I find this very interesting. Whenever I post something I always try to remember to add words like, "In my opinion" or" I believe" or "may happen","could happen". I post many strong opinions and beliefs. I do not consider them predictions.
When I post a prediction I always try to remember to add words like,"this will happen" or "I guarantee this will happen" or best of all, "I predict". Those are predictions.
Maybe I got it all wrong. So in the future I will try to remember to finish my post by saying, this is my opinion or this is a prediction so as not to confuse people.

(81,262 posts)People here make predictions all the time.
Some are educated guesses, some are wild ass guessing.
Everyone knows predictions can either be correct or incorrect.
That is the fun of a forum.
How predictions are not a prediction, OK I am baffled.

(4,913 posts)The Giants WILL beat the Vikings this Sunday. That is a prediction.
One is an opinion, one is a prediction.
When I say I believe the giants have a good chance to beat the vikings, that is an opinion. If the vikings win that does not mean my opinion was wrong. The giants did have a good chance to beat the Vikings. Some people will say your prediction about the giants winning was wrong. Follow? It was not a prediction.

(11,223 posts)Your predictions are based on feelings! I have a feeling you are going to be disappointed about the Giants. Do you know the difference between the Giants and a dollar bill? You can get 4 quarters out of a dollar bill. 🤪

(2,355 posts)It may be DU, but its still got its share of trolls. We certainly dont all agree, as should be apparent scrolling through any thread. Im betting the OP posted something that someone here personally disagreed with, then when the OP turned out to be wrong, they put them through the wringer.

A little background on this. George RR Martin famously cannot get the sixth book of his Game of Thrones series done (I know it's called ASOIAF). It was initially going to be done in 2015. Then it wasn't. Then the tv show based on them surpassed his books. Then the tv show ended. And whenever Martin was pressed, it was always "Oh, next year." Nope. "Great progress has been made." Nope. "I have so many chapters done." Nope. It's now 2023, and he hasn't finished a new book in the series for twelve years. But he keeps telling everyone about all that progress he is making.
South Park famously skewered him on this. He has two children hostage after promising them pizza. Then he goes on a long tangent about his books for hours and hours. The kids keep asking him when pizza is coming. And so you got:

I am not invested in what Garland does. He will either act or he will not. If he indicts Trump, I will be happily surprised. If he doesn't, well, I wasn't expecting much to begin with. So I'm very whatever about it and don't get involved in the scores of threads.
I am, however, curious why people are so invested and insistent that others share their faith on this. Ok, some people believe with great fervor this is all a master plan and Trump is going down. Ok. People can believe that. But what is the investment in browbeating other people to believe that? Opinions and religion are different things, but they do have some crossover in behavior. And it's gotten a little exhausting watching it.
You can only hear, "Don't worry, the pizzas are coming!" so many times before you're tired of hearing it. And within that, some people will just grow hostile to it. Go check out Martin's fans these days.
The salt is real.

(1,766 posts)The people who swear nothing will be done. What is the investment for THEM in browbeating everyone to agree with THEM that Garland is going to let everyone walk? They're far louder and more obnoxious about it. By far.
So you're yet another attacking those are saying that it's all out of our hands, the DOJ will do what it will, but not a peep about the chicken littles who think the worst of nothing ever being done.
I don't know what will happen. I only know from painful personal experience that the DOJ rarely does anything in a hurry.
So why are you fine with attacking the people who say that it's ridiculous to expect the DOJ to do X, and do it NOW, but not the chicken littles for being SO SURE nothing will be done?
Kinda telling, don't you think?

(10,969 posts)That's why I said, I'm just not invested. I expect nothing. But hey, maybe there will be something! Sometimes, "I don't know" is the most valid answer, because I don't think any of us here do actually know either way. Everyone's just picking and choosing what commentators, tweeters, or cable news personality reflects their views/hopes/beliefs/cynicism and throwing them at the other side as if it's some kind of evidence.
My reply isn't a general attack on anyone. It's a specific reply to a specific OP by someone who has made many, many posts scolding people for not having the same strength of belief or faith as they possess. I was explaining the sentiment I am perceiving behind some of the hostility in response to these many, many posts that I have witnessed.
I'm not getting into which side is worse, because I'm not invested and I'm not about to run a post count for every Garland thread over the past two years. From my own subjective perch, it feels like both sides are giving as good as they get.
And I think most people just do not care. I feel like I'm just reading the same dozen or two names in most of the lengthy exchanges. While I sympathize more with the cynical side that nothing will be done - namely because I live in this country and have spent my entire adult life watching power never really being held accountable - I don't know that for a fact in this instance. As I said, could be happily surprised.
Rather than faith or belief, I'll just chill and wait for results.

I dislike when someone tells me what reality is. Reality is the most subjective thing there is. Dont tell me what my reality is.

(4,913 posts)I was born a Giants fan, My dad was giants fan. Earlier this football system I should have accepted a bet by my brother. He told me their QB Jones would not be resigned period. He gave me all his reasons why. I told him those are your opinions. We don't know. If Jones has a good season and the Giants make the playoffs they probably would resign him. I told him no one can predict that. I can't take that bet. My brother wanted to bet me $500. He was 100% certain jones was gone after this season. Like most Giants fan were.
Jones is now in discussions for a new contract. He earned it.
