Santos had a background check but it was ignored.
NEW: George Santos received a background check in 2021 & the vendor of that background check urged him to drop out of the race because of his lies. He completely ignored them. He kept running. He kept lying to the people. George Santos belongs no where near Congress.

His relationship past and medical history cannot be trusted.
He is just out for himself and his pleasures without any concern on the welfare of others.
So, yes. The ultimate Republican.

(36,492 posts)Or does our side just take their side at face value now? WTF?
snip from the NYT article:
The existence of the vulnerability study underscores one of the most vexing questions still surrounding the strange saga of George Santos: How did the gate-keeping system of American politics Republican leaders, adversarial Democrats and the prying media allow a fabulist who boasted about phantom mansions and a fake résumé get away with his con for so long?
uh, 2016-2020...

(36,492 posts)Isn't part of a political campaign to get the dirt on your opponent? You don't just take them at face value, especially considering the low bar republicans set, & you don't wait for the media to do it. You hire your own PIs or firms or whoever does that kind of work & you snoop the person's life. If there was a dem challenger, we should have known about Santos before the election. It seems like just scratching the surface would have raised a bunch of red flags.

(7,870 posts)Look around at the other posts about the topic and you will see all that the Democrats uncovered about the guy.
No one in the media cared prior to the election.
So, it went nowhere, until now, and only because the media decided to finally care.

Robert Zimmerman, Santoss Democratic opponent, insists the information was certainly out there way before he was elected. Im certainly not shocked by the story, Zimmerman, who lost to Santos by 8 points, tells me Tuesday morning. The media knew that he was a [Donald] Trump, Marjorie Taylor Greene candidate. But what they didnt really grasp, or really understand, is he was also the Anna Delvey candidate of this congressional midterm election cycle, he added, a reference to the infamous grifter of the New York social scene.
Its hard to fully comprehend what went wrong for Democrats in this race. Zimmerman raised slightly more than Santos did. The Democrat did spend a total of $22,000 over three payments on Deep Dive Political Research, an opposition research firm, per FEC filings. (This organization did not respond to a Vanity Fair interview request.) Local news organizations did raise questions in their coverage of Santos. One column in The North Shore Leader noted the eye-popping increase in Santoss net worth from less than $5,000 to more than $11 million over a period of two short years. The piece even quoted an anonymous Republican leader as saying, Are we being played as extras in The Talented Mr. Santos? And the DCCCs research memo on Santos outlined many of the allegations made in the Times report. It noted the IRSs lack of knowledge of the congressman-elects animal-rescue charity and raised questions about his financial status. The document does, however, list Santoss educational and professional claims without question. The bulk of the 87-page research document leans into Santoss ties to Trump and his antiabortion stance.
Zimmerman says his campaign was unrelenting in getting peoples attention but that, ultimately, I think part of the problem, quite frankly, was everyone saw this as not a competitive seat. They didnt see the Republican tidal wave coming in New York, and so they didnt focus on the race. Jacobs, too, echoed this sentiment. Santos didnt win the race based on his campaign or who he is, he said. Like many other Republicans, particularly on Long Island, [Santos] won because of the view that this was an issue-driven election and the issue this year was crime. Indeed, a red wave did run through New York on November 8, where even Sean Patrick Maloneythe person tasked with steering Democrats to another majoritylost his own race.

A local newspaper tried to get attention to the story.
The major NY media ignored it and he got into office.

That's the standard deal in America and everybody sorta' functions with that rule. If that rule is NOT in effect, there are prominent messages that say "NO RETURNS."
He misrepresented himself and sold those voters a bad apple. He needs to be put in the dustbin of history.

They know they are painted into a corner and have no way out, yet they keep lying and act as if nothing is wrong.
There is no reasoning with them. And when they finally realize they have no way out, they start blaming anyone else for their problem.
They will not ever accept responsibility

(35,706 posts)He continues to fascinate people, particularly certain reporters who now have blogs and are routinely investigating him. I think I heard a few days ago there are three. Some of these reporters have been on the news shows.
Per post 19, this behavior will keep him in the news, with the result of further casting shade on McCarthy.
None of them have any shame: the purpose is to inform people who do.
One more point: he knew of his past and he knew it would be turned up. Whatever it is he's after, it's worth being publicly disparaged. It's worth being exposed.

(853 posts)Please start you interview with this:
You have shown the American people you are ok with an elected, Republican candidate lying about nearly everything he was or is. How are the American People to know that you aren't currently lying about something you're about to tell us now or will do in the future?
I imagine the response will be indigence - but won't be answered!
