First of all Carroll has a fantastic lawyer, Roberta Kaplan, she is top of the hill. It is hard to believe some of Trump's statements, he just cannot stop incriminating himself.
This civil law suit has been going on since 2019 for a reference for the wait and see crowd. I think the first trial is scheduled this February,, Carroll also sued Trump for sexual assault.
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/trump-claimed-woman-who-accused-him-of-sexual-assault-in-a-luxury-department-store-said-rape-was-sexy-and-indicated-that-she-loved-it/ar-AA16l7KJ?ocid=msedgdhp&pc=U531&cvid=c523e2d874834b0aa85d511a87aaf9e7
In the October deposition, Trump misrepresented comments Carroll made about the allegation in an interview with CNN's Anderson Cooper.
"She actually indicated that she loved it. Okay? She loved it until the commercial break. In fact, I think she said it was sexy, didn't she? She said it was very sexy to be raped," Trump said.
Carroll's attorney Roberta Kaplan then asked the former president: "So, sir, I just want to confirm: It's your testimony that E. Jean Carroll said that she loved being sexually assaulted by you?"
He responded: "Well, based on her interview with Anderson Cooper, I believe that's what took place."
Trump repeated the claim that Carroll described rape as sexy several times and suggested that Cooper was in a "panic" over her comments, so he called for a commercial break.

(115,806 posts)I want to take a shower after reading that transcript. Carroll's lawyer is excellent; she made him admit he thinks pretty much everything that ever happened to him is a "hoax" or "fake news," which seriously undercuts his insistence that Carroll made up her rape claim. But eww, I can't imagine taking that deposition without just losing it and screaming at that sleazy, crazy SOB.

Thanks again for this.

(4,575 posts)Even in this deposition he is doing his carnival barker act. I surprised he didn't start chattering "crooked Hillary." He went with Cuomo instead.
Also, I have never seen anyone proclaim their innocence so much. Having any sort of direct conversation with him seems to be a total nightmare.

I don't know if there is a jury but I can't see how anyone would conclude that sex happened between them. Now they just have to prove that it was rape. And he is the one that has lied about it since the beginning.

(10,913 posts)This is not a rape trial. It is a defamation trial about comments he made decades later.
They just have to prove that he defamed her. This transcript does nothing but bolster that claim.

(115,806 posts)that sexual assault victims can, in some cases, sue their assaulter even after many years.
In letting the suit proceed, the judge, Lewis A. Kaplan of Federal District Court in Manhattan, upheld a 2022 New York law that gives adults who claim to have been sexually assaulted years ago a one-time window to sue those they say abused them even if the period for doing so under the statute of limitations has long since expired.
In his ruling, which the laws chief State Senate sponsor described as a first in New York, Judge Kaplan labeled absurd Mr. Trumps argument that the legislation violated the states Constitution.

for defamation and for sexual assault. The statute of limitations has run on any criminal charges, but not for private lawsuits, and the State of NY has a law allowing victims of sexual assault to sue even if it occurred years ago. If Carroll wins the case a jury will decide how much he has to pay Carroll (she may have to wait in line to collect, though).
