(53,110 posts)under reconciliation either. Even if we had control of the House (at the same numbers as last Congress) I would have some doubts it could pass there either. Perhaps, but not at all a lock.

Why do we as Americans (collectively) put up with such financial gouging for higher education and healthcare?! I'll NEVER understand it!

(8,002 posts)I wonder if there was a provision in student loan forgiveness that said the forgiven loans didn't have to be reported as income? That would be awesome.

(13,444 posts)Congratulations. Getting out of debt is a total game-changer. Your life will improve immeasurably.
Edited to add: People whove never experienced crippling debt cant imagine what a constant psychic drain it is to have that burden. Its like having a low-grade infection all the time.
Heres a song for you:
You're out of the woods
You're out of the dark
You're out of the night
Step into the sun, step into the light
Keep straight ahead
For the most glorious place
On the face of the Earth Or the sky
Hold onto your breath
Hold onto your heart
Hold onto your hope
March up to the gate
And bid it open
- Optimistic Voices, from The Wizard of Oz, music by Harold Arlen, lyrics by Yop Harburg

It's criminal that we burden our young people down with unreasonable debt just as they are starting their adult lives.
