GOP Complains That Biden Administration Won't Negotiate With Terrorists On Debt Limit

The looming standoff over the debt limit has been telegraphed for months. And now, just days into the new Congress, it has arrived.

Republicans have made their intentions clear since at least October: Take the debt limit hostage as a bargaining chip, demanding cuts to programs the party has long sought to slash, such as Medicare and Social Security.

The White House has repeatedly said it won’t play ball, and did so again after Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen warned the U.S. would hit the debt limit Thursday, and that her department would begin “extraordinary measures” to continue to fulfill the U.S.’s obligations. “There is going to be no negotiation over it,” White House Press Secretary Karinne Jean-Pierre said. “This is something that must get done.”

Yet Republicans, having captured their hostage, were not keen to take no for an answer.

“When President Biden says he’s just going to refuse to negotiate with Republicans on any concessions, I don’t think that’s right either,” said Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE) in an interview with ABC This Week on Sunday.

Whaaaaaa? He's refusing to negotiate? Do we really shoot the hostage now? Are Americans dumb enough to believe Biden forced us to shoot the hostage?

they have enough crazies who don't care. The only hope will be that
7 repubs vote with the democrats on a discharge petition to force it to the floor and then vote again on the actual bill.
I am not sure there is 7 repubs who will dare crossing the line. At least not until we default and shit hit the fan

Biden is holding the cards. He knows that any default will get placed where it belongs, on the Party of Irresponsibility. There's enough sane Republicans who will vote to support the debt limit increase, once the moment arrives.

It lasted 16 days. Rafael Cruz and the rest of the Republic Party terrorist terrorists cost us $24 billion. That would buy 800 brand new high schools.

Maybe using....new schools.... is the wrong example for illustrating the wasted $24 billion since the terrorists are mostly from states that have distain for education so a different example would be more appropriate.

How about..... 30,000,000 new AR15 assault rifles could have been purchased and given away.

Biden and other Americans (read Democrats) need to point out how much the 2013, 16 day republican stunt cost this country.

A classic example of the Republicans disdain for the Federal Government and the Congressional institution.

I really think that Act II of government hostage taking by the Republicans will not go over well, at all, with the general public. In fact, it will be a total PR disaster for the Organized Crime Party.

Because they know how unpopular it is. Why are they grandstanding now? They want President Biden to take the fall. Not only does he care deeply about the American ppl and would never do that, he knows it would be political suicide for him, and all dems

This is the way you do it, in broad daylight with your fingerprints all over the action. The freak caucus is playing a game of chicken with POTUS bc . . . They. Don't. Care. Chaos is the point. Burning the country and the world down is the objective. Just ask Steve Bannon and his merry band of insurrectionists trotting around the world sowing their brand of Freedumb.

You cannot negotiate with these people. No appeasing. No enabling.

President Biden knows this. Democrats in Congress know this. We're in for a rough ride.

Still, there's no negotiating with terrorists.

Only a clean debt ceiling bill will be acceptable. Make it clear that we will work to find 5 Republicans who will sign a discharge petition, and make the GOP leadership irrelevant.

If we do, if will become the de facto tactic.

Biden has to state that the 14th Amendment prohibits default (the debts of the United States SHALL NOT be questioned) and state that the U.S. will simply not default, whatever it takes.

Well, I don't think it is right that those who started and cheered an insurrection are still sitting members of the government, or even free members of our society... but here we are.
