In a similar vein but different-a Westboro-type group has been at our high school. All it takes for evil to triumph is good people to do nothing.
Fox started calling for the culture war-- keyword WAR, long ago. Blowing the age old 2nd amendment trope way out of proportion is intentional.
Shouldn't the likes of these fux be charged with inciting violence at this point? Complicity in murder cases and wanton acts like this? It's all gone far beyond the "fire in crowded theater" free speech exclusion at this point.
I wouldn't mind seeing the likes of Bill-O and his culture war campaign now repeated ad nauseum by his emulators behind bars for inciting WAR for God's sake. At least there certainly should be legislation considered about moderating violence incitement as blatant as Fox has done for decades now.

Tue Jan 17, 2023, 09:18 PM
Jan 2023

Aggravated assault: Aggravated assault occurs when one person causes, or attempts to cause, serious bodily injury to another person. The definition of a serious bodily injury is one that creates a substantial risk of death or that could result in permanent disfigurement, or a loss or serious impairment of a body organ or function.

The difference between attempted murder and aggravated assault is mainly intent. To prove a defendant is guilty of attempted murder, the prosecution must prove that they had a specific intent to take the life of their victim.

Who was in there sleeping. Yeah, no bid deal, no one was killed. Good grief. It was only by luck no one was killed. Not due to the shooters taking care not to kill someone. Good grief.

(snip)

A witness, who police wrote is expected to cooperate in the case, told police Peña wanted people he hired for the shootings "to aim lower and shoot around 8 p.m. because occupants would more likely not be laying down" in the homes. Peña was present for the shooting at Lopez's residence, the witness claimed.

sheer luck. He put that child at risk.

Reminds me of law school explanations of the difference between voluntary negligence and willful and depraved indifference. Shooting at a freight train vs. shooting at a passenger train. Shooting at a barn vs. shooting at a residence.

That's depraved indifference. And the other issue of this reaction to losing an election makes it newsworthy too.

I would absolutely classify the Russian war on Ukraine as terrorism but a lot of white people are not comfortable acknowledging white terrorism in any form. I've heard absolutely bonkers arguments on DU about this issue even when it's for RWers on trial for violence against American citizens in pursuit of extremist political agendas.

An instance of duckspeak, though not doubleplusgood duckspeak. More a reflexive dampening of spirits than actually an informed, thoughtful comment.

A simple question: when was the last time a losing candidate for state legislature opened fire on people who counted votes, or belonged to the other party?

At the very least, it is a man bites dog tale, with guns and felons and drugs, too....

Apparently, they can't do both.

Los Angeles Times has the Tulare County drug cartel massacre on page 1, also our water woes.

See this post if curious about Tulare County. It really was a cartel assassination, not just some random deal gone bad.

…report news the “right way,” and because “all” their reporters are corporate shills. (Oh, and Katy Tur is a moron, wherever the hell that came from.)

In just one thread we’ve seen mention of Chris Hayes, Nicolle Wallace, and Rachel Maddow all giving timely and complete coverage of this hugely important developing story.

Sorry malaise, I just couldn’t restrain myself.

I can’t help but wonder why this kind of thing is tolerated in politics when it never would be among regular folks. Continuously egging people on to assault and try to kill your “enemies” is actionable, right?

from the experience of my son, who's lived out there during the trumpcult years and is Democratic party co-chair of his county:

They got rid of Couy Griffin. They're the only state that ended all qualified immunity for police statewide.

New Mexico has been on this terrorism crap for as long as it's been happening, and Albuquerque and Santa Fe won't put up with this shit.

Right wing oligarchic media propaganda continues, but Americans are developing good bullshit detectors.
