GOP lawmaker 'exploded' on Kevin McCarthy over deal that cost him committee chairmanship

McCarthy's side deals with the Freedom Caucus cost a long time moderate republican the chairmanship of the Ways and Means Committee. This GOP congresscritter may retire which will hurt the GOP majority

https://www.rawstory.com/vern-buchanan-ways-and-means/

Resentment lingers within the Republican caucus following the contentious voting for House speaker Kevin McCarthy, with some members still bitter over the deals cut by the California Republican to get the support he needed to prevail.

Rep. Vern Buchanan (R-FL) has reportedly considered retirement after he was passed over as chairman of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee in favor of McCarthy ally Rep. Jason Smith (R-MO), and the 71-year-old lawmaker voiced his displeasure to him on House floor during the speakership vote, reported Puck.

The publication reported that Buchanan "exploded" after losing his potential spot on the committee.

“You f*cked me," Buchanan told McCarthy, according to a source on the House floor. "I know it was you, you whipped against me.”

These maroons ruined Boehner and Ryan. McCarthy isn't nearly as smart as those two.

smokescreen, which is all the media will concentrate on.
Everything they do is lowbrow kabuki theater, based on professional wrestling, complete with fake feuds, fake fights, fake screaming and yelling, fake everything, because they know the rubes that elect them will see it as "gittin sumpin dun".

One by one some of these disaffected or elderly repubs leave the House and get replaced by Dems. (Hopefully.)

There is one vacant seat due to a death of a Democrat in Virginia (4) and: "To fill the vacant seat, a 21 February 2023 special election is called by Governor Glenn A. Youngkin (Republican)." https://www.thegreenpapers.com/G23/House.phtml?v=v
So possibly a Democrat will again fill that seat and that will reduce the repub majority to 9.

Whittling away one seat at a time.

McCarthy is pissing off the regular/sane members of the GOP

https://crooksandliars.com/2023/01/you-fked-me-florida-rep-screams-kevin?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

Rep. Vern Buchanan was reportedly not happy with McCarthy's decision to deny him the chairmanship of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee. I'm inclined to give this story a lot of credence, as the gavel instead went to U.S. Rep. Jason Smith, a Missouri Republican fifth in line in terms of seniority. That suggests some backroom deal was made, probably to help McCarthy in his quest for Speaker. If McCarthy screws over enough Republicans he won't be Speaker for long.

Buchanan, with sixteen years in the House of Representatives and one of the wealthiest members of congress, seems like a particularly bad choice to make an enemy.

Source: Florida Politics

A new report in Puck documents an angry exchange between the Longboat Key Republican after the GOP Steering Committee denied him the chairmanship of the House Ways and Means Committee. The gavel instead went to U.S. Rep. Jason Smith, a Missouri Republican fifth in line in terms of seniority.

“You f**ked me. I know it was you, you whipped against me,” Buchanan reportedly told the California Republican.

Sources close to Buchanan would not confirm the phrasing but acknowledged words were shared between the men.

“Vern simply expressed his disappointment to Speaker McCarthy,” said Max Goodman, Buchanan’s political adviser.

The Puck report suggested the interaction between Buchanan and McCarthy became so heated security had to step in between the men, something McCarthy’s office denied.
