States Move To Tax The Rich

Because Congress 'Won't Act,' Lawmakers in Seven States Team Up to Introduce Wealth Tax Bills

By Common Dreams — January 19, 2023
Frustrated with federal inaction in the face of soaring inequality, Democratic lawmakers in seven states across the U.S. are teaming up this week to simultaneously introduce wealth tax bills targeting the fortunes of billionaires and other rich individuals who have seen their net worth explode in recent years.

Officially launching on Thursday, the first-of-its-kind effort is led by state lawmakers in California, Connecticut, Illinois, Hawaii, Maryland, New York, and Washington—collectively home to around 60% of the country's wealth.

"If the federal government won't act, we the states will," said Alex Lee, a California assemblymember who will join several other state lawmakers at a press conference on Thursday.

I don't think Texas even requires a minimum number of days there, just a P.O. Box and a declaration to eventually move there.

A little harder to shift where your income is earned, but a ceo can move corporate headquarters to a no-income-tax state.

Or professionals…moving is not easy a life task.

Stay, pay fair share. Most will stay, many more than leave, logically.

I am so proud of our Maryland government doing the right thing by the people, not some people.

Even when the red poison infecting states around me ,Maryland is a true bastion of Blue. Because of this I feel safer living here.

of history of failed attempts and mass exodus to tax friendly states for the lawmakers to be smart about this.
I have no idea what that would be but hope they thread that needle successfully.

this referendum in IL.

They bought beau coup ads and airtime to confuse people.

Hopefully they prevail elsewhere.
