geez--the C. Church sure needs to mind its own business!!
@CatholicLeague
Pete Buttigieg should call Chasten his partner, not his husband. The two of them may not like it, but truth is not determined by what is popular. It is determined by what makes sense according to nature and natures God.

(81,528 posts)it's run by a right wing lay person. They describe themselves as a Catholic Civil Rights Organization. They historically have fought against anti-catholic takes in the media and in society, though they align with the very right wing part of the church... and have boxed themselves into that corner now.
It's not run by anybody in the church hierarchy. It is a separate organization from any diocesan leadership. They're their own beast, and Donohue is definitely a righty leader who courts press.

(3,223 posts)That joke is still relevant because how many people these days have even seen a fax machine?! Bill Donohue increasingly seems like a political dinosaur, an Archie Bunker type who refuses to see the world moved on decades ago. Donohue is still heard occasionally in reactionary Catholic media like EWTN and Relevant Radio, but no one pays attention to those networks or has even heard of them. This is probably Donohue's attempt at clickbait.

(56,210 posts)What is it about others deciding what we should or shouldn't be called?! Oh wait, it is the same bullshit that some feel the need to tell other minorities how they really feel, what their experiences are or aren't, and specialize in 'splainin'!
It is nothing more than dehumanization.

(13,850 posts)argument is one that essentially says anybody married in a non-Catholic wedding has no right to call their spouse husband and/or wife. It's ridiculous, and he's courting attention.

(77,270 posts)This is that group run by that tool Donohue.
His organization is a "lobbying" group but it's really a gift so he can get rich off RWNJ catholics.

But, in this case the issue is one group of radicals run by one radical gifted.

(172,840 posts)I don't defend any religion either.....and I don't let them off the hook any more than I excuse the GOP for the actions of the Qanon nutcases....

(10,943 posts)... I think we should drop the "husband" / "wife" designations and just use "spouse" for everyone. It is gender neutral. If the Catholic League is not (I assume) interested in having sex with Buttigieg's spouse, his gender is really none of their business.

(14,180 posts)Ignore them. Theyre the equivalent of old men yelling at clouds.
Back in the late 90s they browbeat ABC into cancelling a really good and realistic show about parish priesthood, Nothing Sacred, mainly because it dared to discuss issues that offended the Catholic Leagues delicate sensibilities, and depictec priests as humans and not saints among us.
Fuck them. (This is getting to be my standard response to any right wing bullshit.)

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
