(3,533 posts)One term as a Congresscritter wont set him up for life. And hell be lucky to finish out a full term, seeing as how he has both state and federal prosecutors looking at him. Oh, and the Brazilians are making noises about wanting him back on his check fraud charges.

(19,055 posts)Of course, "George Santos" might have missed this part:
In 2003, after James Traficant was expelled from Congress, several Congressmen tried passing a bill that would prevent expelled members from receiving their pensions. The bill was stalled and eventually dropped after being sent to the House Administration and Reforms committee for review.[8] In 2007, the Honest Leadership and Open Government Act was enacted; this act provides that a member of Congress convicted of one or more of a list of enumerated felonies (those relating to corruption, election crimes, or official misconduct) will forfeit his or her pension.[9]

(42,757 posts)Thanks for putting the BofF research services in gear so early today.
First, he wont qualify, and second, there may very well be election fraud.

(3,015 posts)This oaf miscalculated the tenure requirements for a Congressional pension. Cawthorn Madison too will not receive a cushy pension (unless he wins an election or two in the Sunshine State).
A message to Mr Santos from the Bard Eternal:

(15,359 posts)how many times I've seen the term limits meme over this. For as important of a job they are supposed to have, we don't pay them much. It's chump change to how much is spent getting them elected.
Most of the really talented people know they can make more legitimately in the private sector. We end up with the b-squad in there trying to get rich any way they can. I'd say pay them a lot more, reform campaign finance and take away the insider trading, lobbying options and any other ways they have found to loot.

(5,129 posts)Santos (or whatever his name is) doesnt get a pension or health insurance after 1 term. Under FERS retirement, the earliest he could get anything is a 5% pension after five years AND age 62.
And Comgressmen buy health insurance- its not free.

Thanks for the post/info - but starting to just tune some of this out.
