MI: GOP candidate sues Genesee County, wants special election for vacant commissioner seat
GENESEE COUNTY, MI -- The candidate who finished second in the Nov. 8 balloting for county commissioner in District 4 is asking a judge to order a special election to replace the candidate who finished first.
Republican Amy Miller, who received more than 47% of the general election vote, is seeking to block the appointment of a replacement for Domonique D. Clemons, a Flint Township Democrat who won the election with nearly 53% of the vote.
Miller said in a lawsuit filed on Tuesday, Jan. 17, that members of the county Board of Commissioners missed their opportunity to appoint a replacement for Clemons by not acting within 30 days of his resignation and must now call for the special election.
Clemons vacated his commissioner position on Dec. 6 after Genesee Circuit Court judges appointed him as the countys new clerk-register, creating the vacancy, which commissioners have planned to fill by making a direct appointment.
