Durex China Obama Ad Suggests Obama Has Anatomical Edge Over Romney (PHOTO)

When it comes to huge stimulus packages, President Barack Obama definitely has the edge on Mitt Romney. But a Chinese ad for Durex condoms also suggests another big difference between the president and his former challenger.

Well there was the draft. . .

Also most prisoners (94% or so) are male. So those laws primarily affect men, and what they may do with their bodies (like moving about freely).

74. If a woman is called a vulgar term for her genitals,
Thu Nov 8, 2012, 02:57 PM
Nov 2012

There is massive outrage.

The same thing does NOT happen if a man if referred to by a vulgar slang term for his genitals.

I see plenty of women saying things like “He must be compensating for small genitalia” or variations of that. Especially when referring to gun owners, or owners of large trucks, or a large something.

Imagine if a man said “She must be compensating for having small breasts”, or “She must be compensating for having poor quality genitalia.”

It is perfectly acceptable on DU to call a man fat, or flabby. Imagine if the same thing was said about a woman.

When men complain about misandry, we’re told there is no such thing.

When men complain about women hating men, we’re told that doesn’t happen. Yet men are told all the time that men hate women.

When men complain about discrimination, we’re told we can’t be discriminated against because we’re a member of the oppressor class. As if a poor working class man could still be the oppressor, while a college educated women is still the victim.

When men complain about some woman who has written an article where she fantasizes about killing lots of men, we’re told its satire and we should “lighten up”.

Or we’re given speech after speech about “The Patriarchy”, and how if we’re not part of the solution, we’re part of the problem. And how ALL hetero men are equally guilty if we don’t “do something”.

It’s even inferred that all men are either rapists or potential rapists.

I’m sick and tired of men being called names, and being told to “lighten up” when we complain.

Men get bashed regularly here on DU. I’d say it’s even a sport with some.

Any way you slice it, whether in the form of humor or as a serious message about men compensating for their penis size, it is acceptable to talk about men and their genital size and NOT acceptable to discuss women's.

Now you can call me a whiner or whatever personal attack you choose, but I am pointing out a real cultural double standard.

Men have enjoyed quite a bit more political power than women for most of human history. Even today.

Douchebags like Todd Akin are trying to tell women what they can and can't do with their own bodies. Employers pay women less than men for the same work. Women have a harder time getting many jobs than men do, they get told to submit and obey men by religious figures, etc. etc. etc.

No, I don't agree with it, I believe women should be accorded the same respect and rights as men, but that's how things are. We live in a world where women suffer from discrimination. Hopefully yesterday's election will help with this.

Women have a harder time getting many jobs than men do

Here's but one example. But really, it's not hard to go to scholar.google.com and run a search on "gender discrimination"

http://www.uky.edu/Centers/iwin/RTOCT12/HooblerWomeninManagement.pdf

So women can volunteer to go to a church that gives them a list of rules to voluntarily follow?

And this is different for men?

You ever see female priests in the Roman Catholic Church? I haven't, and in fact, nobody has, because it's not allowed. Pope Maladict still decrees that the priesthood be a boys-only club.

And how voluntary is going to a religious organization when you've been raised going to it since you were a baby, you were steeped in the culture, and their memes (including misogynistic memes) affect how you and everyone around were socialized? Sure you can leave, as long as you don't mind losing friends, family, much of your social life... Some people can do that (I have), many can't.

What rights are they denied?

Are you really this obtuse? Crawl out of your man-cave and look around you. Gender bias is pervasive.

As for my personal specifics? Only raised in a religion where the canon holds men to be superior to women; went to schools where boys were steered to math, science, engineering, business, while girls were steered to home-ec; I got respected more in college earning my degrees and on the job working as a software engineer than women earning the same degrees and working the same jobs; I don't have right-wing religious fanatics in government telling me what I can and can't do with my testicles. etc. etc. etc.

No persistent industry-wide discrimination has been found against women in the workplace. Individual cases? Sure. But then there are cases where men are discriminated against.

You ever see female priests in the Roman Catholic Church? I haven't, and in fact, nobody has, because it's not allowed. Pope Maladict still decrees that the priesthood be a boys-only club.

So? What bearing does this have on non-members? You can choose to go and subject yourself to their arbitrary rules. Or not. They aren't running the country are they?

And how voluntary is going to a religious organization when you've been raised going to it since you were a baby, you were steeped in the culture, and their memes (including misogynistic memes) affect how you and everyone around were socialized? 100% voluntary.

This isn't a theocracy.

Are you really this obtuse? Crawl out of your man-cave and look around you. Gender bias is pervasive.

Some things are so obvious that it's impossible to cite even one example.

Are women currently denied the right to vote? To a fair trial? To choose their own religion? To express themselves politically? To run for office? To posses arms for self-defense?

What specific rights are women currently denied in the US?

As for my personal specifics? Only raised in a religion where the canon holds men to be superior to women; went to schools where boys were steered to math, science, engineering, business, while girls were steered to home-ec; I got respected more in college earning my degrees and on the job working as a software engineer than women earning the same degrees and working the same jobs; I don't have right-wing religious fanatics in government telling me what I can and can't do with my testicles. etc. etc. etc.

Sorry about your personal upbringing. But we're talking about politics/rights/etc.

Currently we spend money to steer girls towards STEM courses and to do better in math and science.

There is no money being spent to cover the deficit boys face in language courses. Also girls have a significantly higher graduation rate than boys and are now going to college at a rate of 3:2.

Clearly boys are the ones being overly privileged there.

There are scholarships for women only. Are there comparable scholarships for men only?

And religious fanatics tell men what they can and can't do with their genitals all the time. Save it for marriage applies to both. Also they aren't so keen on homosexual men doing what they please with their genitals are they?

Take any other group. Any one you please other than men. This hypothetical group represents 95% of the prison population. About 95% of workplace fatalities. The majority of the homeless population. Members kill themselves at a rate 4 times that of non-members. They are the first ones to be pushed in to dangerous jobs or deemed disposable enough for foreign wars. For the same crimes they suffer disproportionately harsh sentences. Despite living shorter lives they have less money dedicated to their health care than non-members. They make up the vast majority of highschool dropouts, discipline cases, and the like. Despite attending college at far lower rates than their population would imply there are scholarships available only to non-members. Despite suffering many unique issues that are largely unaddressed any attempt to correct these issues is seen as unfair to non-members (despite non-members already absorbing vastly more funds to address their issues).

This is a privileged group?
