From Loudersound.com:
https://www.loudersound.com/news/pink-floyd-fans-are-amused-that-the-anti-woke-mob-are-cancelling-the-band-over-the-dark-side-of-the-moon-rainbow
But in unveiling a new logo to mark the iconic album's 50th anniversary celebrations, the prog rock legends seem to have unwittingly found themselves immersed in the latest 'culture wars' debate.
It seems that certain less... enlightened followers of the band on Facebook have interpreted the new logo's inclusion of red, orange, yellow, green, blue and violet bars, the colours visible when white light passes through a triangular prism, as featured on the album's world-famous artwork designed by Hipgnosis, as a signal that the group are now "woke", and championing LGBTQ+ rights. And therefore, in their eyes, the group must be CANCELLED, immediately.
"Lose the rainbow, youre making yourself look stupid!" writes one commenter... and it gets worse...

(72,193 posts)Man, that is some sub-basement-level stupidity right there. You trying to tell me these are PF fans, and they've never seen the DSotM cover art? Oh, and there's always one guy who thinks he can take the edge off his douchebaggery by saying something like "We should all be true to who we are. Peace." Yeah, that helped...

Unless one considers dropping a hit of window pane acid and getting it on a sexual movement. I mean, I do. haha

(6,446 posts)There have been multiple reissues, prior box set, etc. They should try giving people a break on something they would already have when they're expected to fork over for another version of the same album, including other reissues, box sets, etc.

(5,393 posts)The way I see it, over the years Ive bought DSotM in record, cassette, and CD form. Some formats more than once. Therefore, I own this album in any shape of form it will ever be released in.
All the extras with this edition would be super cool to have, though.

(11,191 posts)If I have already purchased a physical copy (or more than one) of a piece of music, and I am entitled to play that whenever, wherever and however I choose....well, the natural extension of that is to stream it from online sources as if I were listening to the same piece on the radio or via subscription service (Sirrius)...collectors who want to drop $300 on another re-issue? Be my guest...not interested in that myself though.
And these RWNJs getting exercised over rainbows and "woke" (a concept they cannot explain but know they have been conditioned like Pavlovian dogs to reflexively hate)...there is no end to their depravity and no value in them worth debating...write them off as evolutionary dead-ends and be done with them.

Can't believe Pink Floyd have gone woke. From now on the only classic British artists I'm listening to are Queen, David Bowie, Elton John, George Michael, Judas Priest, Morissey and Richie Blackmore's Rainbow.

(2,264 posts)fought for and supported Left-Wing causes for the past 55 years. He is a self proclaimed Socialist and it showed in his Lyrics. As was his Mother Mary Waters a self avowed Socialist. That is why he has always been my all time favorite Artist. David Gilmour Pink Floyd's Guitarist has also been involved in Left-Wing causes and events in the past. Not quite as Left Leaning as Roger but David is definitely not a supporter of Right-Wing Politics at all. Neither has Drummer Nick Mason he is a supporter of Left-Wing causes and projects from way back also.

(62,193 posts)I'd posted that tweet referring to angry boomers initially because (1) it was in one of the articles I linked to, (2) some of the responses that were funniest were from people who claimed to have been Pink Floyd fans since DSOTM came out, and (3) it had the original album cover as well as that page of replies.
I've replaced that tweet with a newer one that doesn't mention boomers but has that page of RW reactions, and I left the image of the original album cover, too.

(14,276 posts)The picture actually demonstrates, but they are pretty dense. All the colors of the rainbow are within 'white'.
Giggling to myself: I just recalled a cartoon where a vampire was told that the moonlight was actually rays of the sun bouncing off the moon's surface. His expression was priceless as he realized he had nowhere he could go to avoid sunlight outside of his coffin.

, that song was the most incredible thing I've ever heard live. I don't know if it was the moment and the friends with a perfect night and weather and everything just aligned perfectly, but were all flat sober and it was still an experience I'll never ever forget. I'm way too young to have seen it originally, but I caught it when Waters was doing his DSOM tour about a decade or so ago.
I only wish he would do it one more time so I could hear it again.

(17,432 posts)I think Pink Floyd wrote about these asshats on the Animals album
"And after a while, you can work on points for style
Like the club tie, and the firm handshake
A certain look in the eye and an easy smile
You have to be trusted by the people that you lie to
So that when they turn their backs on you,
You'll get the chance to put the knife in"
"You gotta keep one eye looking over your shoulder
You know it's going to get harder, and harder, and harder as you get older
And in the end you'll pack up and fly down south
Hide your head in the sand,
Just another sad old man
All alone and dying of cancer"

(15,427 posts)Reminds me of what Asimov always said - There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there always has been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.
Truer words never spoken.
Kind of like the Tea Party demonstration sign in 2009 that said, "Keep your government hands off my Social Security!"
Problem is, this 'cult of ignorance' is very well funded by billionaires and corporations, because it is part of the systematic plan for corporations to amass political power as laid out by Lewis Powell in his 1971 Memo to the US Chamber of Commerce.
George Carlin told us all about it in 2005.

(8,203 posts)These folks do not have brains that function normally. Is this the result of decades of mercury & lead in our water? Decades of chemicals in our environment? Is it brain damage due to all those toxic chemicals?
I swear, y'all know how much I stress the importance & influence of messaging, but for messaging to have the effect it's had on "the right" it seems like those folks must be especially gullible. Like they're just not intellectually able to differentiate between reality & bullshit. And I just keep wondering... WHY???

(3,360 posts)IMO actually listening to Pink Floyd requires a proper HiFi or good headphones to properly experience. it's easy to overlook 50 years later how revolutionary DSOTM and other albums were. lots of novel recording and mixing techniques, use of 'found" sounds, analog synthesizers etc.
Ferrets are Cool

Yeah, I had a copy of that back in the day.
My favorite 2 albums of theirs were Wish You Were Here, and Ummaguma.
I saw them at the Filmore East playing Atom Heart Mother of which I don't think I was that fond of bc I never bought it.
But they played both A Saucer Full of Secrets, and
Set The Controls For The Heart of The Sun. Both of those were what I wanted to hear. So, yay!
