Calls For Investigation Into The FBI Grow After New Smoking Gun Evidence Revealed Against Brett Kavanaugh
Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-NY) is calling for the House to investigate the FBIs refusal to investigate the sexual assault allegations against Brett Kavanaugh, as a new documentary reveals smoking gun evidence of Kavanaugh sexual assault.
Rep. Torres tweeted:

The Wrap reported that the documentary Justice contains new evidence against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh:
The film also surfaces a smoking gun: Max Stier, a suitemate of Kavanaughs at Yale, left a phone recording for the FBI, played in the documentary, in which he recalled learning at Yale of a incident involving a very drunk Kavanaugh with his pants down, having a female freshman hold his penis, while laughing.

FBI Director Chris Wray admitted while testifying before Congress in 2022 that the sexual assault allegations against Kavanaugh were never investigated.

(5,545 posts)an answer which exposes the soul of the US. When an organization has been so compromised, so corrupted that it no longer performs its functions, what will be done. In the case of the FBI we can see what happened under Hoover. And we can see how the rot weakened the country.

Joinfortmill
(21,668 posts)because the White House initiated this investigation, all evidence was turned over to them and any decisions to act on it was up to the White House. Maybe someone can confirm this. I read it quite a long time ago and I don't recall the source.

(12,786 posts)When Clarence Thomas was caught sexually harassing Anita Hill and several other women. The FBI didn't investigate back then and they didn't investigate in 2018 when it was revealed Brett Kavangh whipped out his junk and assaulted women.
But you have to think it's a crime to assault women and to sexually harass women before you make any effort to investigate. Over a quarter of a century later and the FBI are as incompetent as they ever were. What a most useless organization.

(23,803 posts)This article was a pretty decent summary of the farce that was the investigation. drumpf and the white house ultimately made the calls, but McConnell for all intents and purposes put them on a 1 week clock to "investigate". Being that we are now TWO YEARS into investigating Jan 6, you can image what a FARCE it is to put a 1 week clock on an investigation. Granted the White House could have told McConnell to stuff it but as you can imagine very little "arm twisting" needed to occur (i.e. drumpf and McConnell were in complete sync on there being no investigation.)
McConnell controlled the Senate vote schedule, and drew the line in the sand, which drumpf was more than happy to go along with.

"But the White House and Senate Republicans, at least, were very clear that they didnt want the investigation to go on for longer. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, for one, said repeatedly throughout the week, even before the FBI investigation concluded, that a vote on Kavanaugh would happen this week. That had to weigh on the FBI, making it clear that investigators were on the clock."

(90,794 posts)Plus any number of Republicans scrambling to stand in the way.
THIS is why I keep thinking we need more devious thinkers on OUR team. Itd level the playing field, at the very least. Almost every damn one of the enemy teammates thinks deviously with their cornflakes every morning. Sometimes it seems as though our team hasnt even located the cereal aisle at the grocery store yet.
Democrats tend to be generous with the benefit of the doubt. But too often, its far too overly-generous to the point of being unreasonably naive.

I hear you about Democrats. It's not that we don't know how to fight or be devious. It's that it's not our first impulse. IMO, we assume goodness; we come from a place of good faith, and choose to assume the best of others will come out if we let it; we assume that facts and science matter; that others want to do the greatest good for the greatest number.
Which, I believe, is why we did get some Republican votes on the major laws that Biden's signed so far.
We tend to get used to corporate media presenting us as weak on fight, to the point where we believe it.
But I think we're mostly like, "Don't start nothin', won't be nothin.' We've learned, at least, not to be reactive. We actually school our opponents into saner, adult decisions, even as they play their histrionics playbook.
calimary
(90,794 posts)Rising above it. Allowing our better angels to lead. Probably means ultimate victory in the long run.
But dammit, I want it NOW!!! I keep fighting back against the mental 2x4s that my mind wants to swing and do damage to the enemy and all that. I keep beating down the impulses to seek revenge, to seek domination by any means necessary, inflict pain and suffering as just desserts
And as I wrote that paragraph, my mind already jumped to am I just getting in touch with my inner Republican? IS there one, buried deep in there? Does that mean Im potentially as evil as I view them to be after years of observation of that side of the aisle? Is it just set in stone over there or are there any recoverable potential allies? Is it hopeless? Are THEY hopeless?
Tons more questions than answers start bedeviling my weary head. Its an ongoing dilemma I live with.
I hear you. Of course you feel all this about Republicans. And I feel you. I have, too.
It's like the old story of feeling our two inner wolves fighting. We all have our "inner Republican" wolf moments, but that's why we're here together -- to feed the inner Democratic wolf.
We'll be doing that a lot through the next two years, my friend.

(43,358 posts)Thanks for trying.
But how this man got railroaded through congress to the bench is the Koch-paid low point in court capturing. The cover up by investigating entities was worse than Kavanaugh's crimes. And years after, just the idea of finally getting around to creating a documentary about all that? It just rubs salt into the collective wound.

Perhaps there was nothing we could have done. But just remember the way Lindsay Graham went from bear to happy. Suspicious.
