"SNIP........

“In parts of the West Wing and Capitol Hill, they’re known as ‘The 18’ – the 18 House Republicans elected in districts where voters supported President Joe Biden over Donald Trump. His aides are putting together plans to squeeze and shame them in the hopes of peeling off a few key votes over the next two years,” CNN reports.

“To the president and House Democratic leaders, they are the path back to the majority in 2024, and maybe even to some actual governing in between. Democrats are already making plans to pressure these Republicans to break with their party – and let their Biden-supporting voters back home know about it if and when they don’t.”

Just attack Rs as a group, point out all their shortcomings as a Conservative party and why your
standard of living is better off with Democrats in charge. Show what happens to the deficit
and the economy every time they give big tax cuts to the wealthiest. Show Rs would rather
burn the country down (Jan 6th) than work together for the common good, paint D vs R as the
poor fighting the rich, etc, etc, etc, etc, ...they have plenty of shortcomings!

Basically what President Biden was doing the past election when he kept talking about
SAVING DEMOCRACY, and we didn't get beat up as bad as predicted.

Unfortunately, these districts went red in 2022 due to gerrymandering, and just because these voters didn't want Trump, doesn't mean they'd vote Dem in a House race anyway. I think a lot is being made out of nothing here.

One of the biggest swing districts here is PA-1 and has a lot of cops, etc., who moved out of the city of Philadelphia to live in the county that makes up about 95% of the district, and who are Republicans. However the area itself voted for both Obama and Biden. However they voted for Brian Fitzpatrick (R) (now on his 3rd term) due to name recognition. His older brother Mike Fitzpatrick had the seat previously for a non-contiguous 5 terms.

That district was previously PA-8 and like the rest of the state's congressional districts, was UN-gerrymandered by the (D)-majority state Supreme Court in 2018. The UN-gerrymandering yielded 4 new (D) seats.

And even with the last redistricting (and again a map eventually drawn by the state Supreme Court to deal with the loss of a district), kept the (D) number and dropped a (R) district.

However, That particular district pretty much kept the same lines (despite changing district #) and has always been swing, with a (D) in there for 2 terms (2006 - 2010).

Fitzpatrick was the only (R) to actually stand on the steps of the U.S. Capitol during the Democrats' commemoration of January 6.

GOP Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick of PA is the only Republican I recognize at this bipartisan remembrance for January 6. Otherwise all Democrats.

(3rd row from the top, dead center - I think David Cicilline is the one to the right with the purple tie)

The issue in these types of districts is that you get a lot of ticket-splitting where people are voting for those "they know" that they have no problem with, regardless of party.

ETA to note - there was a group who called themselves the "Problem Solvers Caucus", which had both moderate (D)s and moderate (R)s as members and if there are any surviving after the 2022 election, that may be the group he is targeting - https://problemsolverscaucus.house.gov/members (old list of last congress's members and I know some lost re-election)

There are enough Republicans to pass the debt ceiling increase. If they were around the last time this circus came to town, they know it's a loser for them.
