Elizabeth Warren says Republicans are 'running a con game' with the debt ceiling, and repealing

Trump's tax breaks for the wealthy should come first

The US has hit the debt ceiling, and the country is careening closer towards a financial crisis as Republicans threaten to bring the country to default over social spending. But Senator Elizabeth Warren thinks that it's time to take a look at rolling back tax cuts on the wealthy.

In an op-ed for the Boston Globe, Warren, a Democrat from Massachusetts, wrote that "Republicans don't really care about the national debt." Instead, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy — who had to weather 15 long votes to finally get his hands on the gavel — is "running a con game" alongside "extremist Republicans."

"They claim their plan to use the debt ceiling to trigger global economic chaos is about fiscal responsibility. It's not," Warren wrote. "The House Republican plan for the debt ceiling is about protecting the wealthy and the well-connected from paying their fair share in taxes — nothing more and nothing less."

Instead, before eyeing cuts to programs like Social Security and Medicare to bring down the national debt, Warren said that lawmakers should first roll back 2017 Trump tax cuts for the wealthy.

People are feeding the Republican lie that Social Security and Medicare add to the deficit. It needs to be constantly be repeated that Social Security and Medicare are funded through payroll taxes and do not add to the deficit.

Conservatives believe that the government exists to enforce the "natural order" of things, the hierarchy ordained by god or "natures god". They want to use the power of government to maintain the power and wealth of the wealthy, and to prohibit people who are not seen as "deserving" of power, from obtaining it. They want to use government to enforce the economic and social hierarchy, to control the behavior of the "rabble" in order to make sure that we are not causing a disruption to society.

And "reasonable" republicans believe that garbage too.

A bunch of spoiled, greedy, self entitled, narcissistic rich piggies control way too much in this country.

They need a comeuppance and to be rejected from society and thier wealth used to pay back the country for all the things they have destroyed and robbed from all of us.

Until thier power is crushed utterly all changes will be superficial or temporary to our society.
We cannot afford ogliarches,period.

The differences between Liberals and Conservatives are fundamental in how society is supposed to be structured. Liberals believe in meritocracy, in terms that the people who have talent and work hard, should be in positions of leadership. However, society with regards to the values that are placed on human life and dignity are "flattened" in a liberal framework. The garbage collector's vote should count as much as the Medical Doctor's vote. Neither should be considered "better" than the other. On issues of medicine, the doctor is more listened to while on issues of sanitation, the garbage collector has more experience. Liberalism wrestles with the balance between individual liberties and the needs of the collective. Between democracy and efficiency.

The Conservative worldview is fundamentally different. There is no struggle between individual liberty and collective need. There is no struggle between democracy and efficiency. Conservatives do not care about collective need, only about the desires of the wealthy and powerful. They will abandon democracy for the sake of obtaining and maintaining power.
