Long story short. Bigo wanted his trial to be in Arkansas. Too bad. Sentencing is not until may 3. And he is free until then.
Outside courthouse Bigo Barnett says he didnt get a fair trial .. claiming he didnt get a jury of his peers
I asked what that meant. And his attorney Joe McBride responded for Barnett

(51,284 posts)The crime was committed in Washington, D.C., not Arkansas
So, you get people who live in that jurisdiction.
The FAFO guy should have stayed in Arkansas doing whatever scam he had running there.

(11,024 posts)Don't they have to approve or object to jurors? So if it wasn't his peers, doesn't that mean his lawyer didn't object to them?

(35,317 posts)A defendant (or prosecutor) can challenge juror, but that may be limited or need to be justified.
The process is called "voire dire." A challenge may be peremptory (for any reason, but IIRC that's a bit altered recently) or for cause.
If "for cause" there's a good reason for rejecting a person as unsuitable. You're a black defendant and find that a person is a KKK member. Or a rich person and a person is communist who regularly posts how every rich person should be jailed.
There are a certain number of peremptory challenges. A defendant can reject a juror for any reason. Last I heard, this was under dispute because in some trials the challenges had a clear problematic bias. Don't know whatever happened with that line of restriction on a defendant's options.
Note that juror pools don't always reflect the community they're in.
