Former FBI Director James Comey told House investigators that he was “concerned” about FBI officials in the bureau’s New York field office leaking information about the Hillary Clinton email probe to Rudy Giuliani. “I was concerned that there appeared to be in the media a number of stories that might have been based on communications reporters or non-reporters like Rudy Giuliani were having with people in the New York field office,” Comey said, according to a transcript released Saturday. “Mr. Giuliani was making statements that appeared to be based on his knowledge of workings inside the FBI New York.” Comey said he asked for an investigation but was fired before it could be completed. Giuliani has denied the claims.

My wife asked me tonight if I thought the documents were planted. I said I had no idea. I’m thinking how could they have been planted. Your post gave me a start. Planted by the investigators at the behest of the GOP? Probably not due to Biden response. But it’s hard to not think of such a scenario knowing the non existence of gop integrity.

11. I remember when this came out a long time ago...

not long after Comey did his thing against Hillary. He tried to explain then but it got dropped amid all the uproar. I've tried to cut Comey some slack because of that. He was caught in a real Catch-22, in that he truly felt the information would come out one way or another and he wanted to get ahead of it and try to limit the damage. But we all know, there was no limitation to the damage... *Rump the RWNJ's, and the compliant media saw to that.

Or maybe Deripaska told McGonigal to share his info with Rudy. I don't know. It has always been known that Rudy had "buddies" at the SDNY office, where he was a US Attorney for several years. This really needs to be pinned down.

15. One thing to remember about this is that it was a charade...

...which doesn't mean there wasn't some level of collusion between Rudy (and others) and the NY FBI office.

After all, Rudy was teasing juicy information about what was on Wiener's laptop and how it would be a smoking gun (practically an entire firing squad's worth of smoking guns) against Hillary, implying it came to him via various channels from the investigation, but that turned out to be garbage: it was backup files from Abedin's PDA, all stuff the FBI already had.

But the agents in the NY office slow-walked the investigation, taking weeks to even actually run a scan of those files. That was plenty of time for RW media to work up a spin campaign, with Rudy and a few less high-profile people posing as "in the know" to feed that monster and parade it all over the place.

With mainstream outlets ("helping spread bullshit 'Clinton scandals' since 1992" ) so eager to help.

So Trump and the Republicans get their "Clinton scandal" feeding frenzy at a critical time, and the agents have helped out in a way that doesn't potentially put them on the hook for rule violations, the way an actual leak would.Win-win for everybody... except the nation.
