Capitol rioter who echoed sovereign citizen rhetoric sat 'with head in hands' after guilty verdict

Brad Reed
January 24, 2023

Pauline Bauer, a Capitol rioter who became known for deploying sovereign citizen-style rhetoric in her legal defense filings, was found guilty by a judge on Tuesday, just over two years after she broke into the Capitol building and demanded the hanging then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).

CBS News' Scott MacFarlane reports that United States District Court Judge Trevor McFadden, who was overseeing Bauer's bench trial, found her guilty after rejecting claims that she "blacked out" amid the riots and thus did not bear full responsibility for her actions.

McFadden pointed to Bauer's calls for the hanging of Pelosi and other lawmakers as sufficient to have her deemed an "obvious and grave security risk" to elected officials at the Capitol.

According to MacFarlane, Bauer sat "with her head in her hands" after being found guilty, although McFadden did agree to let her free in the months leading up to her sentencing on the grounds that she had already served several months in prison after being held in pretrial detention.

I've seen videos of those Sovereign Citizen jackasses on YouTube. I don't know how cops can keep their cool when dealing with these idiots. ("I wasn't driving, I was traveling..." )

One SovCit learned the hard way when he refused to comply and K-9 Officer Good Boi ended the standoff:

Dude can't say he wasn't warned.

become a chew toy for that 100-pound Belgian Malinois. That K-9 Officer was having a good time, though. His tail wouldn't stop wagging.

She was an amazing dog. Was a part of our family for 12 years. I would travel with no fear. No one, not a squirrel, a fox, a raccoon, a coyote, a skunk or a human predator would get close to my family. She was a cross between the nana dog ( with kids) and Kujo with any one else. My wife and I spent thousands on training and with it she was a very well behaved dog. When she hears the words free though, she was free to do what a dog does which is protect her pack. She chased a fox a couple of miles because it was too close to my daughter. She never really bit a person thankfully because she would have seriously hurt them.

He had been in Kosovo training military K-9 handlers how to train their dogs. His opinion was they are great dogs but without training and dedicated owners they can be 100lb problem.

Is dead on. Had to keep her busy with chores and very active. Minimum of two walks around the lake (two miles around) and busy work throwing and retrieving a ball. My wife and I could walk her, never the children, although, by the time my son was 14, my wife would walk with him while he walked her. He would chase the boy all around the yard, 6 foot fence keeping them both in. She also loved going to the little league baseball field. My wife and I would block the dugout entrances and she would chase and heard our kids and their friends. She was a good dog but even good dogs need tune ups. After her initial training we would take her to a trainer out past Manassas once a year for a couple hours of reprogramming us and her.
