Just got my gas bill. Whoa! My bill has gone up $200

Inthe last 2 months. And my house is 62 all night and 65 or 68 during the day.

Fixed income people are getting killed.

Isn't there some way to control these huge increases?

One way or another they'll do their best to escort us to the rainbow bridge.

In my state the PUC has decided that the power monopoly here can jack up their rates yet again for a third time in 15 months.

I went on "even pay" last fall so I wouldn't have wild fluctuations in my bill. I'll never see a $45 power bill again in this house but at least I kow how much it will be each month until the rates go up again.

Our bill was only $9 more for December than last year and we had a very cold week this year.
Your increase is shockingly high. And, we don't live all that far from you. 250 miles or so from StL.

We could run the furnace in the house, but it'd be crazy wasteful. We have small space heaters in the bedroom and our respective home offices. Usually run in the morning when it's cold. Otherwise, fluffy pajama pants with liners, zippy sweaters, and woolly socks.

We have solar, which makes the heater situation an attractive option. But because it rained for a month, didn't really do anything for us.

But this is California. 30s in the morning is the worst we get. 0 in the Midwest is a different kettle of fish.

2700 sq foot house, gas bill was way lower this Winter so far. Had a brutal December for snow and cold, Bill was only $160. And we need to add insulation to the attic(icicles galore). 67 at night 69 during the day. Do people have high efficiency furnaces as the norm now?

And I'm not trying to minimize that some people are feeling a crunch for energy costs right now, just trying to add perspective that not everyone is. Natural gas has seemed cheaper this year in my area. Electricity a little higher though.

There's this idea that everything is getting more expensive all the time with no end in sight that's not necessarily the case. Even when inflation was at 9%, there were still some items getting cheaper. Now that it's under 7% and falling, we'll get to a better place soon.

There's been years of the sky is falling on inflation, and it has sucked. But it was an inevitable product of supply chains shutting down and the stimuli that were needed to keep the economy from crashing. Biden has hit all the right notes in fighting it and we're getting back to a better place.

provide super cheap insulation to their houses. Some grant program or something. it would lower their monthly heating bills a bunch.

Bill up literally 100% with slightly LESS usage.

Why? Gas SUPPLY markets have NEVER been regulated. Yes, that's right. And given the irresponsibility of states like Texas, we all pay THEIR bills.

Today, the state regulators who oversees Xcel Energy held a meeting about the expensive bills. We've been telling you what those charges are, and now we're looking at the why.

I highly suspect that there is price gouging across the retail spectrum. Some how it seems the pandemic shut down etc. is used to implement and defend high and insane prices.

Should be ringing McCarthy's phone off the hook with , why are you not holding hearings on price gouging.

Worth it? Not the transition, but am getting used to new habits.

your gas bill over 12 months, some utilities adjust the budget payment quarterly, then reset in March. That can cause a household to get a very high, or very low, bill for the month ending the budget cycle. For example, Penn Power, owned by First Energy of Ohio, does this. Last month my budget bill had $70 tacked on to the budget amount because the credits built up over the summer weren't going to last another two months due to the exceptionally cold snap the area had over xmas.

FTR, First Energy is a state regulated utility in Pennsylvania.

that was very high for us. It was that Colorado subzero cold snap before Christmas that did us in. But we keep it at 70 here during the day, 67 at night. We have hot water in-floor heat.

Still my usage went way up with the arctic blast in December.

In October and November, I used about 15 Therms per month and it shot up to 93 in December.

My bill is $261 for December gas.

It's due to our higher usage.

12/9/2022 - 1/10/2023 gas bill = $135.03 (delivery services $61.23 plus $73.80 supply services) for 102 therms

11/8/2022 - 12/9/2022 gas bill = $100.58 (delivery services $55.84 plus $44.74 supply services) for 69 therms
