to think that we will all be able to witness a man being beaten to death. I suppose it is necessary in order to move toward justice, but it breaks my heart.

And we most certainly would not have seen such change without the outrage that these sorts of videos prompt.

As I said to you in the other thread, you seem to want perfection and we, of course, will never have that. But progress has been made and it should continue.

I don't want perfection. I want abolition, because we will never reform a violent white-supremacist system into something that is not violent or not white-supremacist.

And what are you calling for abolition of? All police? Because abolishing police will result in more innocent people being killed -- not less.

Or even the improvements! There were at least 1,176 of "these incidents" -- cops killing people -- in 2022, up from at least 1,145 in 2021, nearly unchanged from at least 1,152 in 2020, up from at least 1,097 in 2019, the year before George Floyd was murdered in an "incident." What improvements have been made, and when do they start working?

Next, do you think even a couple of decades ago, this incident would have unfolded the way it did? It would have probably been swept under the rug and you wouldn't have even heard about it. Now, with body cams and the extra (and rightful) scrutiny on such encounters, you have these officers fired and indicted on murder charges just a few weeks after the incident occurred.

decades of reform, such as use of body cams, is getting cops fired and charged when they murder someone. The problem is, they're still murdering someone. The system has always been willing to offer up officers for accountability, without changing its brutalizing ways. And the only way you can accept "accountability" as progress is if there are still "incidents."

As far as justified killings -- it depends on who's doing the justifying, I suppose.

Right. Americans are horrified at first, but nothing changes.
