do we (people here at DU) all know who Rep. Katie Porter is?

I was at the doctor the other day... a doctor who is in California. We were talking about drug prices and health insurance companies and I mentioned Katie Porter and her white boards. She had no idea who I was talking about. I was sure when I mentioned the white boards she'd know who I was referring to. but nope.

just made me wonder.

So regular people outside of Democratic Underground perhaps don't know who she is? Even without DU I have seen Katie Porter on MSNBC.

The 24 CA senate race is a pickle but it’s not my pickle. I love them both.

But it’s not surprising to me that your doctor didn’t know her. Most people are only familiar with their own reps, if that.

And many doctors are so crazy busy that they can't keep track of much outside their practices and don't have much time for TV.

Not from California, so no vote. But as an outsider, I would love to see her in a Senate seat grilling people like no senator has since Al Franken.

Have seen clips of her on some of the late night shows as well.

It is a shame that one good rep is going to lose between Katie and Adam Schiff. They are both great, but her 'don't pee on my leg and tell me it's raining ' bits with whiteboards, dollar bills., Other props, and most importantly, diligently researched facts, would be a great, and much needed, element to the Senate.

I soon found out she was an MAGA evangelical Trumpie. Last time I ever saw her.

She seemed so progressive and intelligent. I was shocked, to say the least.

Maybe he was playing dumb.

That’s not a knock on her, it’s just that outside of political junkies, most people have no reason to be familiar with her.

Congressmen, even the ones that pop up on cable news every day, rarely have a national profile with the general public.

I have no idea if she gets on the other channels. Probably the Faux Noise viewers have never heard of her.

Indeed she has many fans here on DU.

including my wife, a retired RN. Our circle of friends and acquaintances has often included a number of doctors. They all seem to be oblivious of politics. Maybe they really are, or maybe they just avoid it purposely when among friends. I think they are just too busy to be involved in it. I asked a black doctor I knew in 2016 who he would vote for in the presidential primary and he said Ben Carson.

when Porter made her successful 2018 run against Republican Mimi Walters in what was then CA-25.

So trust me, I knew a lot about Katie Porter. LOL

My Mom (now of memory) was a passionate Democrat and was so proud that she was part of helping turn her little corner of Orange County Blue. That was a feat.

Doctors are so job-focused they SAY they don't have time for anything outside of it.

My stepson is an Intern and that's about the size of it. He doesn't even find time to call his Mom.

Don't expect any knowledge of the outside world from an MD.

Not really familiar with her. I don't think she interacted with my former Congressman that much.
