It's only the Jan to maybe mid-Mar stretch that can be brutal. 2 to 2.5 months. And the payoff is an absolutely glorious summer that won't kill you in it's own right. And the Fall. You guys have the same glorious fall we have.

Other than a brief spat of snow around Christmas, we've been crazy warm in northern New England. Back in the snow machine now with seasonal weather on tap for next week. Still, I don't mind it. Even the depths of Winter has it's own wonders. Oh...and sane politics. What's not to like?

is projected to be the #1 climate refuge in the world by the year 2100. Unless, of course, they try to drain the Great Lakes in order to satisfy water needs out west. (Fat chance of that happening, though.)

But today is gonna suck hard. I'm seeing predictions of anywhere from 6" of snow to 4" plus freezing rain beginning this afternoon. So it's off to the store this morning for fixings to make Great Northern bean soup and dill bread for dinner.

The nice part about a low snow winter…it’s quiet, not that many snow machines sauntering around.

The nicest part of THIS winter…the knowledge that Democratic women are steering the state ship.
Feels like a mug of hot chocolate in front of the fireplace.

I’m starting to look semi-seriously at moving to Michigan after I retire. Ohio really pisses me off lately with all the reactionary laws being bandied about. And don’t get me started on the corruption. I’m convinced it’s the reason for higher prices in dispensaries. Only half-kidding.

Moved back home to Massachusetts be because that's where my life is.

But I'd still be in Michigan if I could have stayed.
It agreed with me. Like the people and was there as the economy turned. Wish I could have been there to cheer on the Dems as they supplanted the morons

We're seeing the same in Pennsylvania, even though there are still a lot of red counties here.

The blue voters aren't afraid to speak up and some are running for office. The gerrymandered map was shot down in 2018. We have voted our convictions for the last three cycles. It has really made a difference.

But as a long ago Michigander, I don’t miss it at all. I don’t mind snow and cold, but there were years when the sun didn’t poke through the clouds for months and that was so damn depressing. But you’re right, summer is beautiful… both weeks.
I guess I’m doomed to stay in the Keys. It’s perfect for me, except for traffic during snowbird time when US 1 is bumper to bumper for miles with cars from Michigan.

Ok, I’m about to get to get flogged so I’ll shut my mouth now and run.

We have Gretchen for 4 more years. Then who?

Debbie is retiring. We need to replace her with another woman. I’ve been hearing rumors of
Jocelyn Benson. And Elisa Slotin has already announced. And let’s not forget Mallory McMorrow. She could run for sec.of state if Benson runs for Senate. We only have a …what, 2 seat majority in both House and Senate. But we got prop 3 passed. MAybe Benson could run for governor unless Gilchrist runs. I always felt kind of bad for Gilchrist, he’s kinda overshadowed by these amazing women.

We have no spring, haven’t had one in years. Weather goes from 30’s to 40’s to 70’s in a matter of weeks. One day there’s still snow on the ground and the next week you’re trying to remember where you packed the shorts away. But the summers and falls are great. Little humid in the summer at times but that’s what air conditioning is for. And pools. And the lakes. I hate winter, when we are dogless ( hopefully not for a few more years yet) I want to spend at least a month in AZ.

And we have water. I keep telling family in AZ, we may have winter but we don’t have to worry about water. And keep your hands off it!

let's not forget that we've suffered through Engler and that sheep in wolves clothing, I'm just a nerdy kind of guy, Snyder plus some real lulus in our State House. I've lived here 30 years now and it hasn't all been an admirably run state. I just want to see us to progress even more and that'll take work by all of us. In my opinion we need to also follow what the GOP is doing with school boards across the state.

Along with IL and to some extent even OH we are slowly scratching and crawling our way back out of this repuke abyss. Our surrounding states are creating a great back drop for exposing the likes of Jim Banks for who they really are. Look at Rep. Victoria Sparks, a protege of Banks, and how she is trying to separate herself from the crazy train shes been riding on in the house. The MAGA base in this state is crumbling, as any structure with a false foundation will.

The one thing we unfortunately need is money. The party in this state was splitting up a 5 year olds piggy bank during the midterms while their party had 10s of millions coming in from outside the state. We are not as red as people on the outside think and MI's example has inspired the party here.

Voters made it possible to have the government represent the people by cracking down on the gerrymander:

“Redistricting was a necessary but insufficient condition for Democrats to win,” says Matt Grossmann, Michigan State University Political Science Professor. The fact is, Grossmann notes, “the Redistricting Commission drew maps that favored the winner of the statewide vote… Democrats still had to win the statewide vote and that was not automatic.” Michigan voters approved the Independent Redistricting Commission in 2018 and this is the first time the new maps were in play. For supporters of Voters Not Politicians, Grossmann says, “Certainly people who voted for a change to the redistricting process to make the maps more fair… would be satisfied with the results because they favored the winner of more votes statewide in each chamber.”

Imagine what we could do is the US House and Senate reflected the people and not electoral shenanigans!

couldn't overcome the MIGQP gerrymandering of 2011. We had to wait until after the 2020 census for the Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission to begin righting all those wrongs. Their work paid off in 2022. I'm a lifelong Michigander and I can't remember a better time for Democrats. We hold all of the major State offices, both houses of the legislature, and are the majority on the MI Supreme Court. It's a damned shame that so many states don't allow citizen petitions to get proposals like the anti-gerrymandering prop on the ballot. It seems so undemocratic.
