House Republicans are making Jamie Raskin remove the cap he has been wearing as he undergoes cancer treatments. I find this disgusting. I stand with Jamie Raskin, do you? ❤️

(9,390 posts)In a Tuesday tweet, Punchbowl News reporter Heather Caygle wrote that Raskin had received a standing ovation in a House Democratic Caucus meeting after saying hed push back on Republican efforts to make him remove his headwear. And I will make them take off their toupees, Caygle quoted Raskin as saying.
Jacob Wilson, a spokesperson for Raskin, told the AP in an email that Raskin was responding lightheartedly to a hypothetical question from a colleague at the caucus meeting. According to Caygles tweet, he was asked what he would do if Republicans made him take off his headwear on the House floor.
Caygle clarified in a follow-up tweet that Raskin said no House Republicans have spoken to him about hat rules. Caygle declined further comment when reached by email. Wilson said the Democrat has received nothing but support and encouragement from all of his colleagues and leaders on both sides of the aisle.

(1,495 posts)do is wish bad things would happen to these shitters.
My sister said to me today, "I wish we could move to a different country."
My son said to me today, "I think DeSantis is going to be the next President."
If that happens, this country will be so fucked that we will have to flee.
I just can't take the evil anymore.

(46,155 posts)And when Gov. Rick Perry was going to be the next President?
The more voters learned about them, the less they liked them.
They went from The Next Big Thing to forgettable has-beens.
I think it will be the same with DeSantis once he gets on the National stage. His crap may fly in Red Florida but not with the majority of voters.

Everything that Asspickle touches dies, and we let the bastard get this hands all over America
In the meantime, our "fantastic" press is back to treating the current Retrumplican party like a normal opposition party.

(97,628 posts)I have tried to find a credible source and have not found one. I did see this whole vid elsewhere and the GOP chair, or whoever he was, spoke and had very kind words for Raskin's cancer fight.
Look, I hate the GOP as much as anyone here, yet is there more than a twitter source?

(97,628 posts)However a tweet is not a credible article.
I did find this about the standing ovation.
Were all rooting for you, committee Chair James Comer (R-Ky.) told Raskin at the start of the hearing, which was also the panels first meeting of the year. We know that youre going to win this battle. Youre in our thoughts and prayers, and its good to see you here today.
Raskin said that he hoped all the well wishes hed received would become seeds of friendship over the year and that he planned to beat his illness. The ranking member seemed to blush as the room burst into applause.

It sounds as if the random tweet from the original post may have misconstrued reporting such as hers, which is maybe where the problem began...

(46,142 posts)Or does she not have to say anything further because Raskin apparently said what she reported? Seems like, given the reaction to her tweet, she'd offer the clarification that Raskin was joking.

(46,142 posts)Maybe before rushing to publish a tweet about what Raskin said based on what others thought he was saying she shouldve first asked Raskin about it. That would be good journalistic practice.

(171,715 posts)why is it that MTG can go sleeveless but Gym has to wear a jacket
Greybnk48
(10,724 posts)Men are expected to wear a jacket. It makes no sense, but it's tradition and protocol. It pisses me off that someone as low, dumb, and crass as Jim Jorden, comes in there and scoffs at honored traditions like he's important enough to change things. He's a big nothing (or actually a shrimpy one).
I've since learned that no one told Senator Raskin to take off the scarf, so some of us got riled up for nothing.

(46,142 posts)Raskin said Oversight Chairman James Comer, a Kentucky Republican who appeared separately Sunday on "State of the Union," has "been very kind" following the diagnosis.
"Chairman Comer has been very kind to me, and I've gotten lots of support across the aisle and from all my colleagues, and I'm very grateful for that," Raskin said.

Now Republicans want to strip him of one thing he may need to feel better. What heartless pigs they are (apologies to pigs).
