Videos Contradict Police Report on Tyre Nichols Arrest

Videos Contradict Police Report on Tyre Nichols Arrest

As with the initial police report after the death of George Floyd, the police report filed after the brutal beating of Tyre Nichols in Memphis paints a very different picture from what is seen in videos. The report written by a police officer claims Nichols was angry, "started to fight" officers, and tried to grab one of their guns, the New York Times reports. The report lists Nichols, who was hospitalized in critical condition and died three days later, as the suspect in an aggravated assault and one of the officers as a victim. None of the report's claims are backed up by videos from the scene, which show officers severely beating the 29-year-old and laughing about it afterward, with one officer boasting about landing "haymakers," reports the Times. Five officers have been charged with felonies including second-degree murder.

A statement issued by police the day after the beating describes a "confrontation" after Nichols was allegedly spotted driving recklessly, CNN reports. It said Nichols ran away and "another confrontation occurred" as officers took him into custody. "Afterward, the suspect complained of having a shortness of breath, at which time an ambulance was called to the scene." The statement made no mention of the beating. The longer police report said pepper spray and a Taser were used and Nichols was struck with a baton—but it didn't mention the numerous punches and kicks Nichols received from officers, the Times reports. The videos show no signs that Nichols, described as violent in the report, tried to strike back at any point.

A judge friend of mine told me they have a template created by the union that they have officers sign when these cases happen. They makeup the excuses for the cops. Even the courts know about the gross lying, but they proceed with it anyway. It's truly disgusting.

The KKK vigilantes in GA and Zimmerman in FL used the "he grabbed for my gun" defense.

I don't know when it changed, but the standard went from "protect and serve" to, "the highest priority is to get home safely".

was when they had him on the ground, and were flipping him around like a rag doll. His arms spread out (Physics, you dummy cops), when he was being spun around, and one hand brushed/hit against the holster of one of the cops.

The only thing protecting the public from the police are video cameras. Police lie too often.

Now that videos regularly show the police lying, I always think back to cases before video was everywhere. You'd hear of police killings and witnesses saying one thing, but the police's story would be the only one that mattered in court. 'He went for my gun." "He attacked an officer" etc. etc. And 20 years ago, that's all that would have came of this story.

This stuff has been going on for as long as the police have been active in America. Countless families lost loved ones at their hands and just had to wonder to themselves forever what really happened.

And I don't think people have an appreciation for how guarded the police are. In many cases, it would take several months or even years for the story of what happened to be told to the family of the deceased. People would be told their loved one was shot and killed and it wouldn't come out for months that the shooter was the police. Not knowing what happened to someone you love is absolutely agonizing.

I recall so many news stories of police killings that just didn't add up and then details would come out later that made it even worse. Never saw anyone in blue charged.

Example...if a cop was witness to something (not related to his/her job) his position as cop was mentioned as meaningful in the positive direction. She/he was considered to be a more reliable witness than the non cop

Contradictory instructions from 2 officers equals non-compliance to one.
Hands up vs don't move!

Upset by being manhandled equals resisting arrest.

George Floyd - attacked an officer's knee with his neck, officer had to press harder. Right?

The beatings and deaths will continue while police forces continue to give violent thugs uniforms and guns.
