If he was hit by lightening on a golf course, his cult will claim he was murdered by Jewish space lasers.
If he went in his sleep, they'd claim he was smothered by a someone with his "My Pillow Guy's" pillow.
If he tripped, fell down the steps of his plane and broke his neck, a new "magic bullet" theory would come into existence.
The fictions that would be invented when he goes will make him a "murdered martyr" with countless worshipers.
The only way to get rid of this Orange Disease is to let him just fade away. He's already less relevant than he was two years ago. And over time, the crazier he gets, his rants will drive away increasingly more people. I'd really like to see his appeal degenerate to the point where he's nothing more than a punchline. I'd love to see him live long enough for young people to say "Donald Who?". This is what he fears the most and would make him feel the unbearable mental anguish he so richly deserves. (I'd also like to see him behind bars, but I'm doubtful this will ever happen.)

(11,767 posts)Eventually, if democracy survives this episode and the pendulum swings back to the left, where most people do the best, Donald Trump's legacy will be as a laughing stock. A singularly unqualified idiot that was thrust into the White House by a fanatical right wing. Our own brush with Nazism.
The may, and likely will be people who see him as a martyr, however his goes out. We need to put those people back where they belong, on the fringes of society, ridiculed and locked out of any meaningful participation in society unless they come back to reality and are willing to "play nice with others".

(96,946 posts)Because how does one disconnect the two? How do you forget the one without forgetting the other? What? There once was an insurrection but I don't know why? or who? or how?
And if that becomes some forgotten memory to future generations, then I want to be around to laugh derisively in their faces when they ask with all earnestness, "How did this happen?", when yet another wannabe tyrant comes along.
Because that kind of ignorance deserves derision.
People who choose to forget such things like insurrection/war crimes/etc., help pave the way for it happening again. And again, and again, and again, etc..
Regardless of how he dies or even if he goes to prison, Trump will be seen as a martyr/Cause Celebre by some people. His name will forever be in history books as a president of the United States.
But if history can say he went to prison for his crimes, and that must include his insurrection, then at the very least future generations will know it pays to fight against attacks on our democracy. That it is a fight we can win.
And that's worth his name being forever known in American history.
